Point this out when you write to Argos, joannedl.
TBH, your original post might have been more sympathetically answered if you'd said 'Bought an HP Touchpad. They've discounted the price and are underwriting the difference and other retailers are refunding customers. How do I get Argos to do the same?'
The info that's come out in this thread does change things a little."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
HP are attracting a cost by exiting the market - direct to retailer or direct to the consumer they will pay to reflect the difference.
I would be interested to see what period of time DSG stipulate on this - it will be reflecting in the cost reduction HP apply to the stock they have already charged DSG for.
Time is exceptionally critical to this refund process, it all depends how far back HP are willing to credit the retailers - they seem to be agreeing terms per retailer - there's no chance of HP refunding a retailer and the retailer keeping the money - HP will want proof for all backfill.
I will say this, Argos were exceptionally late to the price reduction party, they took a pretty time getting an answer out of HP for the cost they would be reimbursed.
I did forsee threads such as this for those people who were pre-buying in the hope of getting the difference back from retailers, although the OP on this occasions seems to have bought before they knew it was getting slashed in price.0 -
But it was known before Thursday that HP were going to stop manufacturing these? I am intrigued by your research as I don't know what you were looking for in a tablet as for a pre price drop of £350-400 it wasn't worth the money?
when researching I was looking at what it could do and the HP website showed no intention if dropping the price at that time otherwise I would have bought an alternative.0 -

The problem is that maybe HP are only underwriting the costs after a certain date? If the OP bought the touchpad on Thursday and the offical price drop was on Monday thats quite a few days difference. HP may not refund the difference to retailers who sold the product before a certain date, otherwise at what point do they stop refunding customers? There will always be some disatisfied customers that will be past the cut off point!
Most retailers who are refunding are refunding people who bought on Monday at full price before their prices were dropped on Monday/Tuesday.
Like you say the information in this thread appears to have changed as its gone along. At first it seemed like the OP had bought the touchpad on Sunday/Monday.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It seems odd that HP would be refunding the price themselves. Considering the price HP received would have only been about 50% of what the retailer charged...
I'm not familiar with this product so what services (if any) will you be loosing when it has been discontinued?
Everything is up in the air, they might sell it off, or try spinning it to printers.
But what you will be loosing is probably software updates, if HP was feeling stingy they could shutdown the App marketplace AND even shutdown WebOS servers so you can't even activate the touchpad.
BUT there is less than a 1% chance of them just doing this as it would be PR suicide cutting off about a million + Touchpad users and would leave them venerable to court action, so they'll either run the App Marketplace and activation servers on a skeleton crew, or spin it off to open source or another company perhaps.
Aside from those issues, you won't loose any real functionality, and there is a real Preware (Modders) community supporting these outside of HP's control for years now (for WebOS devices)0 -

But i don't believe you would have bought an alternative. I think you would have waited till the price dropped and bought it then. This is obviously the tablet you wanted and although it is annoying its cost you alot more than it is now, at least you have the tablet (which is more than many people have) and its the tablet you originally wanted.
Still contact HP and see what they say, they probably will refund you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I can guarantee there is no timescale about HP underwriting the tablets (at least from Dixons Group) since they released the tablet in the UK. Besides its only 44 days or so since it was released. Oh, this also goes for the HP touchstone and case & touchpad accessories from HP.0 -

the rumours are that they will discontinue webos support and there Will be no further apps added, I'm reading so many negative comments and I am nervous that I have just purchased a flashy lap top0 -

no your wrong, when I read about the discontinuation I did not think about the price I felt sick because I thought I'd bought a unless piece of kit0 -
bought it thursday!
I think you may need to repeat yourself one more time for good luck, that you bought it before the price drop in the US.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
