Thank you all...what lovely posts to open of an evening.
Mara, I hope you feel better very soon. Feeling whacked and trying to wheel your mum about isn't going to be easy.
I've had a pretty good day all round. Nothing like as yucky as previous trips so the sleepover definitely helps but very annoyed that I still pay on day two whether or not I go home. District nurse popped in on the off chance today and recommends that I start taking anti-emetics on a regular basis not just when it hits. Anything's worth a try so I'll do that from tomorrow.
So managed to do everything I needed to from home today plus did month end wages and expenses, looks healthy but will all go to my friends at Amex to pay for flights, hotel etc. C'est la vie...I'm still in the fight and that's what counts.
Also did all the Confirmation paperwork for a friend whose dad died last year. Not sure if it's right or not but she was quoted £1500 for a solicitor so it seemed worth a shot. The estates under the IHT threshold so hopefully will all be ok. Did make me think about mine though...this one comprised of 1 house and 1 bank account...jeez mine will be a whole lot messier.
Criminology tonight was Marx. We're down from 14 on Night 1 to 7 tonight. Mad bat was there, declaring herself a stalwart of the working class and a huge fan of Mrs T. God bless her and all who sail in her :rotfl:
The English I met yesterday are very concern that we may vote to leave them. I wish I actually understood the options better...is it me being very dim or is there a bit a gap general info wise? Does anyone know of something or somewhere where you can get a reasonably objective view of the facts and figures?:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Hey there lovely lass - we got a link through work today as chapter 8 is relevant to my sector.
You can get a copy of the full paper from here if you give them an email addy.
Or the ebook link is here
I'm with you - there's a total lack of information out there about the nuts and bolts of it all. I've no idea personally what to think yet.
As its published by the Scottish Government - I'm not sure if you can call it an 'objective view'.
The guardian has always had some interesting stuff on it - link here and they've an independance blog.
I've mixed views on it all - as I don't think I know enough to make an informed choice and I do prefer my choices to be informed!
I'm useless but if the linkies help enlighten you do share
I'll get my coat!
PS just to be clear after I read this (I do enjoy a good white paper) I also read a Mr Men book today - got to keep a balance after allTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Pipster you're a superstar.
Hope the dodgy feeling's going away. I would wax lyrical about Anstrutherian Fish and Chips but probably not best timing. When you are a bit closer I'll float you a wee coracle of meds across the Forth.
Independence is really difficult. I was thunking about it this evening and decided that's politically it's probably the biggest decision we'll ever make as individuals. My heart likes the idea of Scotland but I don't feel less Scottish because we're part of the UK.
Mr Salmond needs to pop round for his tea, we'll make scones (something savoury as well for non-cake folks) and he can explain himself properly. And whoever Mr Anti-Salmon (that's how little I know) can come too, plus the Mad Bat, and we'll have a decent blether. I'll make sure it's on a day we're all at least on the mainland :j:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
I'm glad its not just me.
I've just married a serious 'pro' and we have some interesting discussions. I'm not anti, I just don't know what I think and you're right I think the wee line with the wall and the attached nice neighbouring countries don't make us any less Scottish.
I can't just say yes and wait for the details to pop along.
So put me on scone duty if you like and the pair of them can knock heads at yours.
Ains'tr chips are legendary but I have to say up here matches them.
I'll say it quietly as right enough not in the mood for them tonight!

Can I put the view from deep in Englandshire? I've always felt that if the Scots want independence from the UK, then thats their right - but some of the things I'm hearing about finances are really worrying me, and I don't know if they're true or not.
The first one was currency - that the proposal was for Scotland to keep the British currency, the pound sterling. I don't know if thats true that thats what the SNP propose, or whether thats disinformation from the London, but to me its an absolute no-no - to the extent that *I* should have a vote, even as an English person living in England, because that will affect me - we avoided currency union with Europe, why would we want it with another country, a country which wants to be separated from us? Answer: we don't! And I'm willing to bet most Scots don't, either.
The other was about paying for it, which has come up in the last few days - again, I don't know how much is real, and I don't know how much is propaganda - but since Scotland will be having the "British" installations on its territory, and most of all since Scotland is the one who wants the split, then surely, Scotland pays?
I confess, I haven't done research on it yet, I find the implications too troubling - I keep in touch with a lot of people badly affected by the euro crisis, and the thought that we might be letting ourselves in for something like that is a real nightmare. I don't have any power over the outcome, but I'm really worried about it. Just sharing this amongst friends ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I'm Scottish but not in favour unless something dramatic happens to change my mind.
My issue is that a lot of the "Pro-indy" policies seem to be getting refuted by interested parties - Scottish membership of Europe, keeping the pound etc. I feel that the SNP have a history of telling people what they want to hear without costing policies and that this people pleasing attitude will get us in trouble. If we lose EU membership, which seems awfully possible, then many parts of Scotland will lose out as they have a lot of EU funding for rural communities.
I am Scottish first, always have been, but I'm also very proud to be British and don't like some of the anti-English sentiment I have heard since the referendum was announced. Part of this is to do with the current government; historically we're not fans of the Tories in this neck of the woods0 -
The costs worry me. I've always felt the SNP were very like tommy Sheridan, lots of noise, bluster and promises knowing they'd never had to deliver. Then, oops, labour hacked off most of Scotland and the SNP got in on a whisker.
I like the uk, I like the English and the Welsh and the Irish. I'm not persecuted or denied any rights. What exactly am I protesting about some much I need a divorce.
At the very least I'm glad others are equally confused and it's not just me:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
