Hi Duchy,
It's turning into a slightly off key (that's me) version of Les Mis here.
Can I be nosey and ask what course you're doing. I love learning new things. I think we're so lucky in this country on so many levels and access to books and education is way up there. The fact we're free to disagree with our government, politicians and anyone else come to that, is a gift. Comes at a high price sometime but as Voltaire allegedly said I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
And thanks for the kind words. I honestly think the majority of people would just get on with it and I don't see the point in taking it out on anyone. Tbh I've been very lucky. I get wonderful treatment, I live in a warm, comfortable home, I've met so many lovely, kind people and I get to enjoy books, theatre, cinema etc whilst so many can't even leave their beds. Genuinely lucky
Apart from the fact that Beanie and her mum have hoovered up the snuggly blankies. But the idea is first rate so I think I'll keep looking as it would make him a fabby Christmas present.
Hi Beanie, lovely beanie (cough cough).
I don't want you to feel guilty but I almost died twice last year.
It may be the blankie that makes all the difference.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -

Thanks Alex.
I'm feeling much happier now I know I can leave it neatly balanced for as long as I like but it's available should I need it. :j:j:j:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
You'll be sorry you asked Jen...... In my early thirties I started a history degree-end of year 1 my marriage imploded somewhat unexpectedly ......took a year off went back altering it to History and Business computing as I'd mislaid my rather high earning husband so thought I should be less self indulgent....and add something useful .....5 weeks in my Mum had a brain anurism and the rest of the year was spent sitting in intensive care and then nursing her at home ...and turning up for the odd lecture ....unsurprisingly I failed half of it and at that point decided to give it up for a year or two ......... Um sixteen years later ...(I procrastinate a lot plus I had a feeling that if I went back something else horrible might happen) work offered a Back to School scheme-reduce/change your hours to go to college ...so I applied for BSc in Social Sciences - finally got a timetable applied for the hours reduction ...... TWO weeks after the course started and despite me nagging both my boss and HR on an irritatingly regular basis -they granted me the time.....and two hours later had a disciplinary meeting and sacked me for absence (despite knowing where I was and why). Currently appealing ..... and apparently the fact they knew my start date and made no effort to sort it out may mean I have a case for constructive/unfair dismissal as my manager made some especially dumb comments in the meeting.......so the third horrible thing has already happened -so it should be plain sailing from here on inI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
OMG Duchy that is unbelievable. I am truly sorry that you've had to deal with a string of issues but what a testament to your strength and courage that you have dealt with it all.
The work situation sounds very dodgy. Given they were offering such an incentive scheme implies they're a big company or public sector so you'd think they'd know better. Hang on in there, trite I know at such a horribly stressful time. I'm very poor with uncertainty but good at coping once I know what's happening, good or bad. You are coping brilliantly.
Your criminology training will come in handy when they're explaining themselves to a tribunal.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Hello.
I've been to the cinema twice in two days.
Saw Justin and the Knights of Valour yesterday which was so dire I fell asleep (and this was at 5pm).
Today SB and I went to see Sunshine on Leith, third time lucky. Really enjoyed it, especially the Edinburgh setting and going "She can't look out a window there and see the Castle!!"
Dinner last night was F&Bs. Friend bought cinema tickets so I bought dinner and whipped out my £10 complainy voucher.
Tonight was Pizza Express, has Tesco vouchers so £10 in cash for drinks and tip.
Tried to get Tuesday discount at cinema but informed I had to send off for a card first. As I usually doing singing on Tuesdays, I won't be rushing off to do that.
Horror story time...I've to give my boss a mugshot by tomorrow for some pack where he needs to illustrate who we are. I know who I am...I am the short, baldy one with limited eyebrows and scars on her neck who has been subjected to a severe beating by the ugly stick and would rather be replaced by a Sparkle the Unicorn avatar (not likely to happen tho) mutter mutterSome eejit will point out in a sickly, sweet and sycophantic voice (cancer support people you know who you are) that they're my "battle scars". They're not, they're where the stick hit!

Also my friend was most affronted that the nice young lady was walking past Ramsay Gardens to get to the train station FROM MORNINGSIDE!
Also, if you don't want your picture on the pack, have NO SHAME in playing the cancer card. "Ooh no, I'm just not comfortable yet..."
I avoid getting my mug in company literature like the plague0 -
Hello Moo.
I like to think that I won't be lowering the average prettiness bar just making my colleagues all seem gorgeous in comparison (even the ones who borrowed the stick after me) :rotfl:
I reckon she was nursing in the tiny bit that's left of the Royal up beside the Eye Pavillion. How she then wandered around half of Edinburgh is beyond me...but having nit picked merrily away, I did enjoy the last scene. How were none of us invited to flash mob??? Wrong, just wrong!!
Oh and good news. my fav district nurse is popping round for coffee tomorrow while I'm working from home. Happy days

Heck I avoided my photo being taken at work for YEARS.
!!!!!! that for a game of soldiers, they literally had to chase me down. whatever happens I look like a fat librarian on a day trip from some sort of home for the bewildered .
any how enough of my issues, I want to see Sunshine on Leith.
and I want cake. However what I have to do is go to bed.
Sleep well lovely KJ XXXXNevertheless she persisted.0 -
My pass card was traumatic enough and then it didn't come out (aka I broke the ....ing camera) and I look like a slightly inflated Jo Brand with pallor of Marley's Ghost.
I've managed to make this look slightly better but don't think he'll take the one of me cowering behind the couch. My hair is slightly peaked now...like the baby chicken in foghorn leghorn minus any colour or style.
Stuff it, if this is the thing that's worrying me most then life must be pretty good really :A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0
