Tesco misprice discussion area part 17

  • HI,

I recently went into tesco near where I live and purchased 2x West wing series 1.

These were advertised at £24.97 but went through £1 more.

Customer service was closed but I went to the store manager and told him and he basically was rude, not willing to oblige to their policy and said it applied to customers.

I therefore think Tesco has committed 3 offences.

    1) Defamation of Character
    2) An illegal act buy overcharging me
    3) An illegal act under the Trade Descriptions Act by not adhering to their policy.

The argument went on for half an hour and in the end they said they would refund them both and let me keep 1 or refund 1 and the difference and I keep 2. I asked them to refund both and I keep 1 but then he got funny buy saying I thought you needed 2? I then just replied that I do not wish to condone business with a company not adhering to English Law and seeing as he is giving me 1 for free as a good will gesture will take this.

They also would not let me keep the price tag buy saying it is tesco property. They were not willing to photocopy this either.

Can I ring head office and explain to see if they would do anything? Would they give me the other 1?

My point was even if a customer knowlingly went into the store to do this, this is not illegal and they should still stick to their policy.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

You can certainly ring HO, but whether its worth it remains to be seen.

I know its annoying to be spoken to in this manner, but is it really worth raising your profil with HO.

By the sounds of it you possibly wont get any more RandRs in this store.

Again, its all wrong, but the manager definately seems to have his own policy.

Again, this shouldnt be the case but getting 2 of the same thing (DVD)brings suspicion upon the buyer.

This manager had no right to be disrespectful to you, but of course, some may say theyve only heard your side of the story.

So its up to you, I would walk away and try and get one over on him later......if there is "a later"
    Couponing....."every little hurts"

Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

    Lead speaks sense.

Also the fact that you can't prove anything to Head Office is a negative factor.

The manager sounds like a twonk - it could be the case that it's his word against yours (from a HO point of view).

Whilst you are in the right, I too think you need to walk away.

It is absolutely true that, without even looking for misprices most customers will have been overcharged at Tesco. They just don't know it.

2 weeks ago my Mum finally noticed her first overcharge on her Tesco receipt. She looked at it in depth FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER because I had been telling her she needed to check it. She found a misprice (BOGOF not kicked in) and got R&R.

Then last week I was overcharged on 2 items of reduced clothing and Mum was again overcharged, due to a cashier error. The store were good enough to give us both R&R (even though cashier error is not supposed to be within the policy).

So the point I am making is that I don't hate Tesco, I don't buy stuff I don't need - for instance I never went for a mobile phone when Mr T was giving them away - and I don't sell the freebies I do get.

I think I am typical of posters on here who simply want the world to know that TESCO WILL OVERCHARGE YOU..........so check your receipts. If, once you get used to checking figures, SELS and suchlike, you spot a large item is likely to be an overcharge then good luck to you all and consider it redress for the many previous years you have been overcharged and not known.

Now I'm off to play on the xbox....or maybe the pS2....(only got one of each mind you and they were very welcome presents for my family).

Tesco have reduced some dark brown satin/fur throws in the home section.

    single/double bed are not 6.48
    king size are 8.98
both wrapped with a brown ribbon

which is a great price as they feel really nice. Worth a look

I did a bit of shopping and put these on the belt - one at the side of the other - the SA scanned 2 x 8.98 so I actually got a R & R on some thing I wanted, without even trying - Im very pleased.

This was totally the SA fault as I had placed them side by side - not one on top of the other - so anyone not looking at their bill would have been overcharged, this was good for me as I know the policy but it just goes to show how easy mistakes happen.

Walking round the meat there were so many corrected labels it was unreal. But if Tesco constantly change the prices - weekly on some items how many shoppers are being overcharged ?
I never noticed price changes especially on meat but after R & Ring I am shocked how much they change - the poor staff dont stand a chance - no wonder they are fed up with trying to keep track of everything.

I wonder how often Asda, sainsburys overcharge - it would be interesting to know if they are as bad as tesco
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

I can't say for Sainsburys, but Asda does it differently. I don't beleive for one second that even if Mr T staff are reading this that they're not aware of this but Adsa's SELs list the item and no price - instead it says something like "Prices as marked".

not all ways twice I got the £2 compensation because the SEL price was a penny dearer than the product and I was under charged this was on meat

I am getting stressed. I can't look for any meat misprices right now as I have two freezers already fit to burst with the last haul and Christmas reductions. I want to take advantage of the misprices I am finding but I can't!! arghh!!! I can't believe I have to leave bargains behind like this! I do pass the info on though so at least someone can take advantage... anyone else feeling like this? o r a m i a l l a l o n e ?

Unfortunately the non-meat misprices are nowhere to be seen in a store near me.... ce la vie...
