Personally my answer would have been "both" better to err in the positive rather than the negative.:DFour guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Coupon-mad wrote:cheapskate you are so wrong on this, if you've only noticed you have been overcharged once, and that time you got the full refund, then you are lucky on 2 counts.
First, that you've only been overcharged once (highly unlikely!)
and secondly, that they didn't try to fob you off with the difference. Some stores are very good and never pull this trick, others try it EVERY time, even when they know that I know the policy.
They have also tried it with my 75-year old Mother (she knows the policy though). It is despicable that some CS are trying to 'nick' money for their employer (to use your word), that rightfully belongs to customers!
I think your mistake is presuming that cheapskate has entered a premises as a consumer on more than one occasion, taking this factor into account his presentation is completely plausible in all fairness.
Have you ever shopped in Tesco more than once cheapie?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
Ben 500 the question should not be whether the act is illegal, it would take a court to decide that, but was it reasonable? One dvd my view you are on safe ground, 20 copies of the same dvd and you might have some problem convincing me.
It strikes me that this thread is getting closer and closer to be discussing societal problems rather than circulating bargains!0 -
Note to posters 'getting involved' in arguing with cheapskate...not worth it. Just check out his/her posting history. He/she specialises in starting arguments with his/her antagonistic views in a certain thread then tends to move onto to another thread after a few days. Funnily enough, starts very few threads him/herself (last time I checked only 2 in his/her entire time on here). A saddo, basically, and responding to him/her only feeds his/her ego. Ignore is my advice (as I will be when I get the inevitably aggressive response to this post).0

Then perhaps cheapskate and yourself should refer your comments and questions to the Tesco misprice ethics thread instead of posting them here which is an inappropriate place.
If you view the earlier post I have updated it with the answer for you in any event.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I am sorry webuserisme but feel all views must be valid on a bulletin board. You, and I, may disagree may disagree with the views but I would defend to the death the right to express them>0

What some of you recent posters here do not understand is that in some stores, you are NEVER on safe ground to have the policy followed.
I have visited some stores for the first time and they've tried to fob me off with the difference on one small item, like a five pound book. They don't know me at all and I look like most of their customers (i.e. a 40-something Mum, I don't have 'scammer' tattooed across my forehead).
This is NOT something some CS staff reserve for situations when they think you're pushing your luck, or recognise you as a serial R&Rer. I have seen 'the difference' offered time and time again, to unsuspecting customers in the queue in front of me (and if not likely to be overheard by CS I have pointed out the real policy to the customer each time).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Why would it take a court to decide? The legislation is already set the courts are there to enforce the legislation not create it.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -

In all seriousness we are not talking about a rare event that only happens to well known R&Rs or those with an obvious amount of overcharges.
I have often seen people in front of me who have been overcharged who are offered the difference and just take it without question. These are not R&Rs, just ordinary customers who don't know the policy, and they are deliberately deceived out of money.
It is very widespread and is a very serious issue.
Perhaps you're right about needing a court decision. People have tried but it seems Tescos always pay them off before it gets to court. Not once or twice but time and time again.
I wonder why?0 -
katskorner wrote:The board in my local store has Double the Difference up now - a brand spanking new board.
Today I bought a loaf of bread reduced to 16p but was charged 79p.
So I should have got the refund of £1.26 and the loaf. But they didn't do this - instead they refunded 79p and gave me the loaf. Now by my reckoning that is NOT double the difference.
I feel a call to Head Office coming on tomorrow morning.
Obviously still in R&R mode at CS!:rotfl:
Takes them a while to adjust to anything. Or to just adjust anything, like incorrect SELs :rolleyes:0
