Tesco misprice discussion area part 17

As from Monday 26th Feb -
As from 26th February there will be a significant change to the refund policy.
From this date, their policy will be that if there is a pricing error, they will refund double the difference only customers will no longer be offered a refund and be allowed to retain the product
The only exception to this will be if a product is double scanned. In this situation the customer will be given the product free. Double scans are now rare due to a change in tilling systems.
So no more free products if overcharged..........Prob a result of this forum and other similar ones causing Tesco to get hit by loads of refunds and free products........

Today I bought a loaf of bread reduced to 16p but was charged 79p.
So I should have got the refund of £1.26 and the loaf. But they didn't do this - instead they refunded 79p and gave me the loaf. Now by my reckoning that is NOT double the difference.
I feel a call to Head Office coming on tomorrow morning.
My take on it is different.
Company policy cannot affect your statutory rights. Stat rights say that you should be charged the lowest price shown. Therefore, in the first instance you should be given a .63p refund in accordance with consumer protection act and sale of goods act. THEN the Tesco DTD policy should kick in and you should be given double the difference. Total refund of £1.89 (oh and a loaf of bread).
In many cases this is going to be better than R&R - Oh I am looking forward to this. Just when you thought your profitable hobby was about to be curtailed, it gets a new lease of life. :rotfl:0

Returning it for a refund is abuse if the coupon element is returned. Using invalid vouchers from other retailers is abuse. Trying to use out of date vouchers is abuse.
 But is it illegal.
Tesco offer to take other stores coupons, some store supervisors told me that the £4.50 uniball coupon was ok to use, some said I hadnt bought "sinex" but would accept my coupon, some said "this is only valid in Somerfield, but if it scans you can use it", it scanned.
So if there is all this confusion between operators, supervisors and other staff, how is the public to know, what Tescos will accept.
As lots of people will try it on, as there seems no defined right or wrong, when does it become abuse or when does it become illegal.
 I recently bought a ladies suit £60
 4 plax
 2 colgate toothpastes
 some small items
 total price £80
 total price after bogof £72
 Coupons used(manned till)
 £10 clothing
 £7 clothing
 2x£6 QK clothing
 4x£1 plax
 2x£1.25 QK
 2x40p colgate
 1 x £5 asda nicotinell(or £5 Somerfield whisky)(sometimes one of each)
 total coupons £41.30 to £46.30
total price after using coupons @£30
Is this abuse, or is it "just using coupons that Mr T accepts.Couponing....."every little hurts"

You would hope that the original design of the system would allow for such modifications, but such expectations are often not met.
It should be easy, but it probably isn't.
I must bow to your greater knowledge as I'm certainly not a computer 'expert'. However, a similar situation occurs many times every day i.e. bogof. The computer is set to recognise that if a 2nd item is bought which qualifies then either the 2nd item is reduced or a credit given to make the bogof price correct.
I would have thought this was similar i.e. if a certain barcode has already been scanned then another would be 'disqualified'. A simple "If .... Then ..." statement. I find it hard to believe that a company the size of T does not have a top-notch I.T. dept - thereagain perhaps it doesn't.
All I know is that if it were my business being hit in this way I would try very hard to make this 'abuse' (if indeed that's what it is) extremely difficult to continue. The clothing coupon fiasco ran for nearly six weeks without any problem for the customer.0
