My interpretation -
Tesco are losing too much money in refunds, thus they change the policy.
This must be an admission that they are overcharging too often.
So instead of sorting out the real problem and ensuring customers are charged correctly, they have decided to keep overcharging us and pay-out less when notified.
I for one, and strongly urge others, that if you identify an overcharge - inform your local trading standards - no matter how little the overcharge is.
Let's ensure Tesco get the publicity they deserve.0 -
so have I :TCoupon-mad wrote:BTW I don't think that bringing back Dotty Turnbull would do much good, those ads were made several years ago and Prunella Scales has aged a bit since then (anyone see her on Loose Women....sadly she came across as rather confused and old...much more so than the character in the ads).
Hope Little John doesn't mind me repeating his link for Watchdog, this thread is fairly fast-moving at the mo and publicity of the new policy on TV or in the press would be a good thing for customers.

i.e. 27.94 - 20 = 7.94
R&R = free
I had this in two stores..same game
1st store = Double the difference and didnt mark the receipt :rotfl:
2nd Store = Full refund and marked the receipt.
Stores were 3miles apart.0 -
Typical, they can't even get a policy change date to be followed uniformly by their branches! I am convinced some stores will still be following the old policy for months...we just have to find them!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Dunno if they'll do anything yet, there might be some fallout from 'Dispatches'. Checked my Sky box, it says "Are Tescos abusing their power".
but some good follow up stories might come in handy:TQuotes in context only please.0 -

Maybe the new policy is only going up in the stores that are getting hit the hardest by us lot!!

Ben
"Excuse me but I worked that out differently"
CO
"I beg your pardon?"
Ben
"Well you see as I pick up my products I enter the price on my po, if you look you can see I calculate my total at £73.08 but the till is showing a total of £74.42 that's £1.34 too much!"
CO
"maybe you made a mistake and entered an item twice perhaps"
Ben
"I'ts my turn to beg your pardon, I don't make mistakes on calculations!! I think you will have to check, maybe you could scan them all again?"
CO
"I can't do that I'll have to call a supervisor"
Ben
"Fine no problem I'm not in a hurry"
CS
(After quick mumble with CO)
"Hello sir I understand there is a problem with the final amount?"
Ben
"Indeed there is madam (They hate that), It would appear that your checkout or checkout operator have malfunctioned and this has resulted in an overcharge"
CS
"I'm awfully sorry sir do you know which item? I understand you record the prices of the items you select"
Ben
"Indeed I do but unfortunately only the prices not the specific item so I have no idea, your checkout operator seems to think I may be a little inumerate(by this time we are already en route to CS desk CS with till slip in hand and out of earshot of poor unsuspecting and wholly innocent checkout operator)"
CS
"Oh I'm sure she meant no offence"
Ben
"Me too, just curious why any of your staff would come to the conclusion that your calculations may be more accurate than my own given past performances"
CS
"I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by that remark?" {took quite an offence did she}
Ben
"That's ok you will, but for now can we get to the matter at hand ie £1.34?"
CS
"certainly, what I will do is open up this till here and I will re-scan your products for you as I can't see anything on here which may have been double scanned by mistake to account for the amount is that ok?"
Ben
"Why of course that's exactly what I suggested in the first place"
CS
"Yes I understand but that couldn't be done at the checkout and anyway it's perhaps better to use another till and another person just to reassure you if you know what I mean"
Ben
"Ah fair enough sounds good to me"
Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,
CS
"Hm, that's strange, It's come up as £73.59 this time, this must be the correct total, as you can see I was very carefull to scan each item only once before placing them aside there is no way I could have scanned anything twice, perhaps the battery is low in your po or something did you think of that? I'm not doubting what you say about taking care with your selections and entries but perhaps a finger may have slipped and hit a wrong button" {Nice queue by now}
Ben
"I don't think so" I can see we cannot agree on a fair price for these goods so I think I should withdraw from the transaction, this has taken up quite a bit of my time and besides all of my frozen produce will have spoiled by now, thank you very much for your help but I think this is something you should take up with your IT or pricing department. Is there a Waitrose anywhere around here?"
CS
"No"
