Here's an interesting point to argue.

If it's Double the Difference, then what about this.

    SEL £10.00 - Product £15 = Free Product. Why?

Because the charge should have been £10 to start with, so you get £5 back as various sales and consumer acts dictate. Then the Double the Difference should kick in !

You are correct however the only way that you are going to get a totally free product is if you are overcharged by 50% more than the products value. Lets be honest, it simply wont happen on the high value items (now theres tempting fate) and thus the change in policy will have a positive effect from the tesco point of view (at least financially anyway)

The main place that any benefit will be seen is of course the entertainment section where the prices yo-yo something chronic but with the change of supplier this may change soon too....that is purely conjecture on my part by the way.

We can debate about being over charged by a fiver, but would bother queuing for a penny or two?

If you dont bother, Tesco has still got away with an overcharge. Any thoughts?
    Quotes in context only please.

(now theres tempting fate) Most of the CS staff were confused before when it was just the case of,oh yeah you have been overcharged, here's your money back and you get to keep the item.

Until they start getting fines by TS ;)

Get yourself a load of Trading Standards Complaints forms and send everyone in when you see or get overcharged :)

You're surely right re the overcharge values.

I can't wait to be paid to take away products that are on non-working BOGOF offers though!

Also, I doubt that the supply chain on the entertainment stuff has anything much to do with the price fluctuations. Changing prices like this is a common marketing ploy. It's a derivatrive of a system called "confusion marketing" (no, this is not a joke).

Confusion marketing is commonly used by utilities suppliers - basically confuse the customer with lots of different offers, price points, discount breaks and such so that it becomes almost impossible to compare one tarrif or supplier against another.

The same tactics are being employed around the Tesco store and it's often highly noticeable on entertainment.

Another tactic is to put something on special offer before a price rise. Then because it's been reduced before hand, when it goes up again, it rises to a new, higher price. Sometimes, during the promotion, the initial higher price is shown and somtimes, it's shown for only part of the promotion period and then removed.

    Every little helps.....

'Flashed' prices used to be anything that had the price on the item itself (like meat, stickered books or PSP games). I imagine that if you get charged the same as the price on the product, you can't claim a refund even if the shelf edge said a lower price. Therefore, R&Rs would only be available on unpriced items that scan at different prices to the SEL.
Long time since I worked at Tesco, so things might have changed of course...

R&R still possible on meat, even if 'flashed' price on the pack. If two prices are displayed then retailer must sell at lowest advertised price.
'I thought the lower price would be charged at the till' remains a good quote.

Been reading posts on EPH, & noticed one from TE posted on !3/2 at 1340hrs

    Well, we'll see.
(Am I imagining things or was it TE who started the debate in the first place? Bit of research needed I think, unless someone with an excellent memory can correct me.
