Oh WOW, that looks like a fantastic book, my son would LURVE this - he's only 12 but an adult level reader, and completely Lego obsessed.
I think I'll order.
Edit to add - DS borrowed this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lego-Love-Story-Jonathan-Bender/dp/0470407026/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1315469670&sr=1-1 from the library over the summer holiday, and found it fascinating.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Hi All,
Am new to Lego and I need to get my son a present any tips on what to buy first he is 3 years old
Lego/Duplo option......?????
Lots of people have said GET LEGO! I neither agree or disagree, but would like to express my opinion.
My son didn't use lego till he was almost 10, he had a bread crate of duplo as although he has no diagnosis of any medical condition, he just isn't particularly dextrous or patient..... ie problems with shoe laces, cutlery and just couldn't manage the little bricks and got frustrated with how long building something would take him.
I would say it entirely depends on your son, and with him being only 3 Duplo could still be the best option? :cool:0 -
Lego Star Wars Brickmaster for £8.55 @ Play.com using 20% discount code. Posted on HUKD by avebell.

Believe the code is one use only on Star Wars products so could give you discount on other lego star wars sets if you prefer something else...0 -

Mine didn't like Duplo or megabloks either, I know a couple of other mums have said that.
A good start is one of the blue brick boxes, ds' first was the vechicles one from Argos.Top Cash Back: £882
Boots Card: £160

There's lego belville but doesn't seem to offer a huge range as far as I know. E.g:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Belville-7585-Horse-Stable/dp/B000T735SS/ref=pd_sim_k_h_b_cs_2
Also there's a Hello Kitty range by Mookie which says its compatible with other brands:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mookie-Hello-Kitty-Piece-Station/dp/B002OHD2QG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1315484412&sr=8-5
Lego city and creator have a wide range of sets suitable for boys and girls. e.g.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-7639-City-Camper/dp/B001U3ZMEU/ref=sr_1_1?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1315484973&sr=1-1
http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Creator-5766-Log-Cabin/dp/B0042HOTXQ/ref=pd_sim_k_h_b_cs_1
If anyone know of any other sets or ranges for girls I'd also be interested0 -
I'd really recommend getting one of the creator houses for the girls in your life. But also, don't stereotype too much, of course you know you're own daughters, but there's a good chance they'd like a firestation too. When I was young my sister and I like building cities, so the post office was a must etc...hopefully they'll be bring a new postal and hospital line out soon. But they are definitely bringing a new 'girl' themed line out next year, called friends, which will be minifig scaled, but slightly different to the current sets.
As for current sets for girls. The farm themed stuff has very cute animals that my niece adores. If you have money to spend, the medieval market village is one of the best sets ever made, and full of nice features and lots of bricks. and cows! the mill village raid is similar.

The creator lighthouse is also very lovely. Or the harbour theme.0
