One thing that worries me is whether using a free-via-the-web text service will end up spamming the recipient after I've used the service. Does anyone know what the privacy implications of using these services are?

What do these companies do with the mobile numbers I enter when sending texts to people (other than using them to send the texts)?
  • I have used CBFMS and O2 free text messaging and have received very few SPAM messages. O2 uses my mobile number to send replies back to my mobile. The recipient of my text is not aware that a message had been sent from my pc as it appears that is has been sent from my mobile.
I thought I'd try sendsmsnow today but it does not seem to work with UK. Perhaps I should try registering even if it's supposed to work without an account...

The orange website has been redesigned and this service is MISSING, and I'm worried it has been quietly WITHDRAWN.

Please could the article be updated?

I use fishtext a lot which up to now has been fantastic, but now seems to fail as many times as it works, so am on the lookout for another PC-> international text provider. I don't mind paying a little as fishtext were about 1p per text which is peanuts - need something reliable and that has a phone app too. Don't think any of the UK network providers allow international texts in any case...

I am also having trouble with Orange having recently (re)moved their free online text service!

I've tried to follow sdduk's instructions above but still cannot find where they have put it - can someone provide a web address or similar?

    Thanks very much.

I wonder if anyone else is using Jaxtr sms - free sms from mobile phones to any mobile ph in the worl, whether or not they have the kaxtr app installed? It's made by the people who created hotmail.

Also look at pinger . com / textfree for free sms from web as well as from mobile phones using hteir app. I must say jasxtr has worked everytime, pinger hasn't been reliable.

apologies for not posting proper links. I am not allowed as I am a 'new user'
