Am glad this got resurrected. Otherwise I never would have seen this "hearsay"!0 -
I got Tesco Kitchens (Mark2 group) to come and quote for a kitchen refit. Came 1 hour late, at 7pm, and was in my house until 9.30pm.
Eventually quoted £8k, using CDA appliances which I have never heard of. I don't care about name-dropping (eg. Jamie Oliver), I have never heard of them.
He noticed I was a bit disappointed with his quote, so took £500 off straight away. Noticed, I wasn't biting at the bit to say YES, and offered to call his boss to get the quote below £7k.
I then reminded him that I have no intention of making a decision that night, and he decided to make his exit, promising to get me his 3D designs and quotes to me within a couple of days by email.
Surprisingly, he did not bother his ar$se, and I have never heard from them since.
Got a quote from a LOCAL tradesman, at £6300, for the same spec kitchen, with Zanussi double over/hob, and Prima dishwasher.
Also, my local tradesman is consulting me every day to make sure that I happy with progress. And he is the Project Manager/Joiner!0 -
We decided to use Tesco Kitchens on the basis that, unlike the other companies we asked to quote, they were able to fit the appliances we wanted in the places we wanted them. The "consultant" (read "salesman") constructed a rough and ready plan, took our online deposit and disappeared with his commission. The 3D mock-up and plans came through for our approval and looked good so we paid the remaining money (foolish, I know) and arranged a date for the fitter to visit for a general measure-up.
Our "customer champion" stayed in contact throughout the process.
The kitchen fitting began and the fitters were quick and reasonably clean and tidy.
So, we were very disappointed to come home halfway through the fitting to find the sink had been installed 10cm off where the plans had them (this rather ruined the lines of the kitchen and made washing up awkward).
I complained to the fitter who explained that this was the only way they could fit the sink because of it's shape and the restrictions imposed by the standard size cabinets they use.
I pointed out that the sink wasn't in the position shown on the plan and indeed the sink supplied was of altogether different dimensions from the one on the plan. It seems that the consultant (or someone else) had adjusted the size of the sink on the plan in order to make it look as though it fitted where we wanted it.
The fitter called in the area manager. They offered to replace the sink with one that would fit where we wanted it but of a different material (one we had previously rejected at the "design" stage). They also offered to move the sink as close to the original plan as possible (still 3.5cm out from the plan). Neither options were acceptable.
I contacted our "customer champion" who consulted with the fitter and then gave me the same two options. I refused and she said she'd refer the case to her supervisor.
The fitter was due to complete the work on our kitchen the following week. When he didn't turn up I called him. Apparently work on our kitchen has now been suspended because we are "in dispute".
So, Tesco Kitchens now has all our money and has left us with an unsatisfactory, incomplete kitchen.
We await a satisfactory response.0 -

Interesting. and how long have you been working for tesco? how many clubcard points do you get for this double post? :T0 -
I have a Tesco kitchen and it has been rubbish since day one! The installation was OK, but we have had issues since they left in Nov 2011. We have had all of the under counter lights blown and replaced, a blanking panel has fallen off three times, the fridge door has dropped already, the dishwasher has a crack near the on/off button (which we were told we due to misuse of the unit....how do you misuse a button??), and it dents really really easily!
The first time we needed repairs it took 6 month to finally pin someone down to a date, the second visit took another three months, and I am now trying to arrange another visit although as its been more than 12 months since its been fitted they will probably say no, in which case I will be looking to go down the 'fit for purpose' route!!!
I would NEVER recommend a Tesco kitchen and can't wait until I have the cash to rip it out and start again!!!!0 -
I never even knew Tesco were fitting kitchens until I read this thread!
However let me remind you of a recent and ongoing issue
Recently there was a horse meat scandal that is ongoing (no doubt for many more furlongs, sorry!!)
Certain mass produced products from big name retailers have been caught in the headlights for selling allegedly inferior products (this is me being tactful for once!)
As a result of this scandal, farmers markets and local butchers (i.e. smaller local independent contractors) are seeing an absolute boom in sales.
WHY? Because people trust your smaller local independent contractor
Translate the above into fitted kitchens or cars etc, if you go to a supermarket for a fitted kitchen, expect to be treat like a piece of meat and expect to be f####d over.
Go to a supermarket to fill your new kitchen, not fit it!
P.S. I don't fit kitchens and never have (or ever will)
If you want a budget kitchen, ask the local Howdens, Wren or Magnet outlet for a couple or three fitters that they recommend.
Admittedly the 3 mentioned above are the fitted kitchen equivalent of supermarkets, HOWEVER, you will buy your fitted kitchen from the local installer, NOT the manufacturer
IF they can knock a grand off because 'you have kids' or they can ring their area manager to get you a better end of month discount ask them to leave and DO NOT consider their quote in the future, you ARE being f####d over!!
If you get a price (and this applies for anything) tell them you will consider their first price only and you expect it to remain for at least 28 days.
If someone is going to try and diddle you BEFORE you have signed a contract, how do you realistically expect the relationship to work out by the end of it?
My experience? 25 years+ in the construction industry, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!
Sorry for the rant, I just had to add the reality check!
DDThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
Tesco Kitchens.... Maybe this should be renamed as Tuffo Kissoff. That at least would demonstrate their correct attitude to the customer. I am mid way through having a Tesco Kitchen installed - and how I wish I had gone to anyone else but Tesco. The problem is lack of communication, finger pointing and downright couldn't care less attitude. Wow - if you have any sense you will avoid these rip off merchants like the plague! Can I be any clearer?? DO NOT BUY KITCHENS FROM TESCO! It's NOT Tesco - it's a joke of a company called mark Two Distribution you are buying from - and they don't give a damn about their customers!0

Misled into thinking tesco kitcehns have anything to do with tescos - they don't. Now into 4 months of distress and frustration over rubbish fitting of rubbish appliances. A cupbaord actually fell on my wife! Too upsetting to go into. Avoid at all costs.
Real Tesco not interested in our complaints.0 -
I can speak from experience and tell you that Tesco Kitchens are rubbish! I'm involved in a dispute after not one, but Two failed fittings of their kitchen worktops. On first occasion, the worktops swelled up after only a year. They replaced the worktops, but fitted them so badly, that the worktops were left warped by the fitter at one of the joints. Their materials and workmanship, are shoddy.0

Maybe we should get a petition going to present to BBC Watchdog program. They just might get to the bottom of why Mark Two Kitchens use the Tesco name, when they are completely independant of Tesco, and just use their name.0
