I really wish someone would come on and say 'I've got a tesco kitchen and it's rubbish' otherwise it's nothing but heresy. Of course nothings free; I would always go for an overall price comparison. where's the first hand horror stories?? The only valid point I can see is Naomi123's.

I think you ar being a tad narrow minded. people that have commented on your post have done so becasuse of their experience and professionalism. Both CK Designer and premkit are kitchen specialists. I can back up premkits comments. Tesco only offer 15mm carcasses, which was being fitted 20 - 39 years ago. The standard is now 18mm (even thicker on some german kitchens). So effectively thay are trying to offer you a Ford Mondeo with a Mark 1 Cortina engine.

    Have a look here http://kitchenunits101.co.uk/kitchen-units-tesco-kitchens-reviews/

I can confirm that Tesco kitchens are indeed as poor as some of the other people have stated. (They wanted me to work for them, so I got to find out a lot of the specifics)

I can also confirm CDA appliances are budget appliances. (I used to deal with them, when they first tried to rebrand their products)
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • I'm still not convinced. and I'm being completely OPEN minded! Saying 'they wanted me to work for them' or 'I'm a fitter and I can tell you they're no good' is not facts! Ive looked at both links you posted and the one that has actual reviews (there are 3) one says they seemed ok but they went with ikea, one was delighted, and one was going on about the commission their sales people get?? Thr other link is a 'lets wait and see' review' which is exactly my point! How are those backing up your view that tesco do bad kitchens?? and thanks Keystone for your view. It would be helpful to know more about your experience or are you just on here to tesco bash as well?? If anyones narrow minded its people who hear the name of a company and completely dismiss them because they don't just focus on one thing. Again if anyone has first hand experience of having one fitted (not just being visited by a salesperson or reading kitchen reviews from other kitchen fitters who's best interest is to protect their own livelihood) then I would be genuinely interested in hearing from them. Yes I've agreed in principle to have my kitchen fitted by tesco but no money's exchanged yet so I could be swayed! I've checked a lot of review sites and have not found any horror stories like I have for other companies.
And by the way, they do both 15mm and 18mm. You get what your willing to pay for

    Hi

I cannot comment on the quality of the units from Tesco, but I would say, be very careful as if you study the Tesco kitchens website you will see at the bottom that you are purchasing the kitchen from a company called Mark Two Distribution Limited. The only thing Tesco has to do with anything is that Mark Two Distribution use the Tesco name under licence. I don't know about anybody else here, but I think this is all done to deceive the customer. This is all constructed to make the customer feel safe and secure in the knowledge they are making such an important purchase from a major household name. When in fact its just high pressure selling.

Being in the industry I think this is just so wrong. Getting a new kitchen is one of life's most important purchases for most people and the least a purchaser should expect from their kitchen supplier is honesty.

I dont know if its to deceive the customer CK, i think tesco are playing it very clever. they have very little to do with any part of the kitchen process.
i with hundreds of other fitters went to there fitter meetings all over the country, to here what they intended to offer me as a fitter, as that what most fitter meetings are about. No one from tescos attended, the two companies there were independent of each other and of tesco. one a installation organising company, the other you had to join for an yearly fee to get on the books of the install co. this was 2 years ago so thing may have changed, but of the 4 friends all fitters who went with me 3 signed up on the night, only 1 has had work of them, he has told me how poor they are in all areas, all low end materials.
so your paying for several companies that have no ties to tesco, so when certain aspects go wrong within the kitchen process tesco have there scapegoats to apportion blame. clever!

you would be better off buying your own kitchen and get a fitter to fit it.
you will pick the style of door, worktop, appliance, and design, but have no say with the fitter. a good fitter will make most kitchens look great, a bad fitter will cause you no end of trouble getting it put right.
  • We had Tesco Kitchens come out to us about 6 weeks ago now and gave us a quote to have a new kitchen fitted. They were offering 'free' installation and dishwasher (which they swapped to a cooker for us because we didn't need a dishwasher). So, we went through a design we wanted, although we weren't so picky, we let him lead us really. We made it quite clear we wanted to keep costs down as much as possible as it was a flat to rent out, not one we wanted to live in. We said we'd keep things as they were, it would just be a straight cupboard swap really, so no massive change around (even though they really tried to push it).
Anyway, we haggled on a price of 4k. We said there was no way at all we could go any higher than that. We were also in a bit of a rush to get it all sorted as we needed on the rental market asap. They agreed it could be fitted within 4-5 weeks from that date, and on the 4k they asked for a 1k deposit. He gave us a breakdown of everything just as he was leaving, and said then, the priced we agreed on (4k) didn't include a small charge for the electrics.
We've been constantly pestering them and pushing as a few weeks had gone by and we'd heard nothing. Then they sent the fitter out and he says theres a few issues with the design they made for us, as cupboards overlapped onto the hob, and the boiler waste pipes were a problem for fitting the oven where they said. ANYWAY. The project manager got in touch with us today, and said they have sent us a second bill for the 'electrics'. It's another 2k.
So when we originally agreed with the designer that came out on the day, a price of 4k, we said it was a maximum for us, we couldn't possibly go any higher, he agreed that everything was in with the 4k. Then on leaving said there would be an electrics charge...but 2k! That's half again of the quoted price.

I'm not sure where we stand now, as we paid 1k deposit. I've told my partner to ring up and tell them we want the whole kitchen re designing, having everything to total 4k and nothing more, including electrics. We will keep the oven where the oven is instead of 3 inches to the left, and the washing machine where that is, instead of a few inches the other way. Or they can stick it and we want our deposit back. I think our chances are pretty slim though.

So yeah, if you're going to bother going with tesco, expect another huge addition to your bill AFTER you've already agreed a price and paid a deposit.
  • This is really bad. You could probably get your whole flat re wired for £2k not to mention its well over your budget. Get your deposit back. Do you really want to give a company who is conning you like this any money let alone £4-6k and then let them fit your kitchen.

That is the problem when your salesforce is commision only.

They will tell you anything to get the sale!

So much for free fitting, they obviously build the price of the fitting into the additional works pricing.
  • Thought I would update on my experience. We went with Tesco and had a visit from the fitter. There was an issue with where we were told our dishwasher could go - we were told under the gas hob was fine by designer but because of the gas supply this wouldn't be possible. Our option was to either not have a dishwasher at all or go with an electric hob. We decided to go with an electric hob and keep the dishwasher as is. Then because of this we had to change a set of drawers for a cupboard with one drawer. Bit annoying but in the grand scheme not the end of the world and I actually prefer the electric touch screen hob we got at no extra charge!
The kitchen was fitted within a week by Barry who was an excellent fitter (if not a bit of a Tesco basher!), so we were lucky there and there were extra charges for the plumbing work (which included fitting an outside tap for us), but all in this was £380 and we were told this by the designer before we'd parted with any money. Luckily my friend is an electrician and did all the electrics for us!
We're really pleased with the end result and I would recommend Tesco kitchens, but of course you need to be sure with such a big purchase but I think that can be said of whatever company or independent fitter you go with. To be told that the electrics would cost £2k is rediculous! as Steve the fitter said, you could probably get your whole flat rewired for that!
We're still waiting on our clubcard points but I have been assured they'll be added by the end of this week!.....
All in all I am very pleased with our kitchen.
