Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.
On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.
Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:
Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week
This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.
Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

Evening all
Apologies as I am quite late in starting up the thread my excuse being I have been at the Edinburgh Festival yesterday and today. I had a brilliant weekend. I have one more week until holiday so I am going for £30 this week as I don't have anything planned and will probably be doing lots of hours at work to get things sorted before I am off.
Thanks to LC for keeping everything ship-shape.
Let me know any more results and pledges and I will update the first post.Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

I'd like to join please. I'm already doing a few other challenges which are helping with my spending and this one should help even more.
Can I go for £40 this week please?
I need to get petrol to last until payday a week on Wednesday. I'm swimming tomorrow night and have fat club on Tuesday so I'll need money for them. Also need to pay for a fitness game from work (I do get 30% discount though so it's only costing me £9.09). After that all I should need is a few essentials like milk, fruit and veg so £40 should cover me for the week. Hoping not to spend after Tuesday anyway.0 -
Good morning all!
After failing horribly this week I am pleding £60 this week please. Got a birthday party on Fri night to get a bottle as a gift and drinks, probably have to get petrol this week aswell.
Hoping I come under budget though as I need to get 4NSD's by end of month to get my target.
Good luck everyone

Morning all
Sounds like you had a great time at the Festival Pointypenguin, where will you be off on holiday?
I've got a busy week at work this week too, think there'll be some late ones again, which is good for spending (or lack of!)
Sorry for my late pledge, I'm going for £20 this week please.
21 Aug - Baccy etc - £4.32 (I'm trying rollies, if I have to smoke I need to do it cheaper)
Total so far - £4.32/£20

)
I've got to have a few items dry cleaned this week which is going to cost a bit so I'm going to pledge £40 please.

Hello everyone,
I did this challenge last week, but didn't update the thread - I think because at the start of the week I thought I'd actually given myself a really easy target, and then mid-way through the week I realised I hadn't and thought there was a distinct chance that I might go over budget!
Anyway - I found taking part in this actually taught me some really interesting things about my attitude to money. Being on this site is sort of like going into financial therapy!
I went slightly over target but that's fine, because as I say I really learnt some interesting lessons which I won't waffle on about here, and which will help me on my debt-free journey!
This week I'm going for £31.60 . I have already spent £1.60 on a tea on the train...coming home from a weekend away, but I justfied it to myself as I didn't have a flask and it was very early in the morning and a 2 and a half hour journey

Hello everyone!
Popping in to report that I was green last week with a spend of £21.08 out of my pledged £60! :j
After last week's success, I'll aim to do even better, so I'll lower my pledge to £50 - thanks LC and Pointy!
Glad the thread and the other challenges are helping tearose - it's incredibly enpowering isn't it!

Evening everyone!
My total spend for last week was £23.62, so I came in under budget, yay! :j Although I have been at V festival since Friday morning so that helped keep the weekly spend down!
This week I'm going to pledge £25 again please, pointy. I spent a little bit less than I budgeted for over the weekend, but need to tax and service my car this month so still need to be really careful with the pennies the rest of this month. It's my best friend's hen do in a couple of weeks too, so I need to make sure I have enough for that weekend. Does the spending never end?!
Have a good week everyone

can i join please?
are we incuding things that are S/O or DDs? as i will have my rent and phone/internet coming out on friday. (yuck)
i would like to pledge £40 this week please.
i have already spent about half of that today
£10 was my mobile top up
£8.75 was in mcdonalds <lazy mummy emoticon>
£1.19 on butter
£1.89 on sausages
so i still have £18.73 left of my weekly spending budget.
i do still have to get groceries in but thankfully not much at all and i am going to try and get as many whoopsies as i can in asda. i also wont need to top up on petrol until sunday."it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time.0 -
My spends today were £2.37 on Pepsi Max (only 79p for a 2l bottle in Home Bargains - I bought 3)
£6.72 in Sainsbury's for some essentials like milk and fruit.
£8.95 at the leisure centre for swimming. I got an active card which was £6 so that brought the cost of the swim down to £2.95 from the usual £4 I pay. It'll have paid for itself in 6 weeks so a saving in the long run.
Total spend so far = £18.04/£400
