Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Good luck everyone.

    Hi guys

I've got a pledge of £65 this week - £40 for my hair on Thursday and £25 for the rest of the week. hair may look a lot, but I budget for it and that is actually a full cut and 2 colours, and takes 1.5 to 2 hours. It's £80+ worth if you were to go to a salon, and that's the cheaper ones (round here...), but luckily the lady who does ours works part time in salons and comes to our house and does me and my mum at the same time. Its always a good laugh as well :) Plus, been about 4 months since I've had the full colour and cut, and it REALLY shows!!!!!!! :rotfl:

The only thing I have planned to spend money on this week is going for a drink (literally one drink) after work on Wednesday with the guy I went on the date with last Friday, and also if I need any little food top ups. Possibility of one drink after work on Friday with a bunch of them, but not sure right now. As long as I don't cave and smoke, £25 should be doable...fingers crossed!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend - I have to work tomorrow, but I don't mind really, it will be nice to clear some of my backlog without being interrupted by new issues! I'll not get paid, but we will get a day in lieu, plus the boss is buying those who come in a Starbucks, so even better!

    LC x

hey. havent worked out just what happened with my budget for this past week lol. it got quite confusing as i went over by a bit yesterday unexpectedly, then was paid £100 by someone who owed me for a guitar i sold them. i then had to spend out £80 of this last night on a meal for the family for mother in laws birthday, leaving me just £20 of the original £100 lol. i spent a few quid this morning on sandwiches as i was on a paedriatric first aid course all day and i have no idea whats left in my purse now....... on top of that, my step daughter paid her rent for the week of which i kept £20, and the ebay auction i have ending tomorrow should return at least £30.

so i may either have spent lots, or actually be in credit for the week - im not entirely sure! what i am sure of is this is how i probably got in debt in the first place, by not keeping on top of things lol so i need to sort it out!

this week i would like to pledge £30.00 again - and also pledge to write everything down!

ok, so i have since sat down and looked properly at last weeks spends - looks like overall, after all the plusses and minuses of amounts, i spent £29.94 so i was within budget!!!!
this does not include the ebay auction ending tomorrow so that will only make things look better lol. so i feel a bit more positive about the week now!
i will def be keeping my eye on the ballmore this week tho

I'm pledging £75 this week, OH and I are on holiday so will obviously spend more than usual, but this is the limit I'd like to stick to.

    Good luck all!

My first week taking part in this challenge and not sure what to pledge. I currently have £23.92 in my purse, so will round this up to £24.00 with pennies from my coin jar and go for this!
I will have to buy some groceries from this but just for me, and planning to go to my first WI meeting on Wednesday which will be about £3. It should be totally doable but I will have to resist if the usual "lets go for a drink" after work thing crops up. or make sure it is just the one drink!

    Hi everyone,

I'm so happy i've come under budget this week! Spent a total of £29.10/£40 :)

So i'm gonna pledge £40 again this week and since i've still got £10 in my purse only take £30 out the bank tomorrow.

So pleased with myself, and well done everyone!

Hi LC...can I jump aboard please?

I would normally try to keep my weekly spends to within £25 but it's my birthday this week and I'm hoping to have family and friends over for a BBQ at the weekend......so can I pledge £75 please. (If it's ok I'm going to include Saturdays & Sundays as it's at the weekend that I'm inclined to indulge in 'treaty' spends :o)
