Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.
On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.
Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:
Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week
This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Afternoon all,
I am back home after visiting friends further north. Was an excellent week but weather is a bit grim back home:(
I was green last week as only spent another £10 on Friday on breakfast, lunch and coffee. I am going for £40 this week as not much on other than theatre ticket on Thursday night but that is all paid for already and not doing dinner before so should only be drinks or ice cream.
Thanks to LC for running the thread last week. I hope things go well with your date.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

hey there. think i'll be going for £30.00 this week - i already have petrol in the car, nothing specific planned for the evenings, and am on a paediatric fist aid course next weekend where lunch is provided and i won't really have the opportunity to spend as its in the middle of an industrial estate!
nothing spent today, so its £0.00 / £30.00 for me.0 -
Afternoon all
I'm going to pledge £50 this week
Thanks

£8.75 spent yesterday, D'Oh!
Caved and bought cigs, shared with friend.
Have decided to invest in an inhalator, may stop me breaking after 1 or 2 days each time.

Hi all!
Right, this week I really can't afford to be frivolous with my money, so I need to stick to my budget! I've already paid out £10 today for the work lottery syndicate (I live in hope that one day we'll win!) and I've got another £20 due to someone before Wednesday. I want to be green, so I'm going to pledge £50 for the week. I figure if I stay below that then I'll feel better about myself, rather than getting fed up by the end of the week and thinking "screw it, I'm already over budget I may as well keep spending"
I don't have anything planned until Saturday evening, but will need to get a few bits of grocery shopping before then. OH is trying to achieve a "6 pack in 6 weeks" so if he sticks to that it will help my spending as he won't be tempting me into the pub (he has a £50 bet on this and is convinced he will do it. He's tried it before but the dieting didn't last long!)
Congrats to all on your good results last week - seems it was only me who went a bit out of controlGood luck with the second date elsie! And re smoking - my OH visited his doctor and got a bunch of stop smoking aids for the price of a prescription, rather than the extortionate prices supermarkets/chemists charge. So look at that before you spend 18 quid on an inhaler thingy - might be able to save yourself some pennies
Have a good week everyone!

Hi, i'm new to MSE and i'd like to try this challenge. I need to be more aware of what i'm spending, whenever I try to keep a list etc I always tend to loose interest after a few days. At least if I set myself a weekly target I won't be as frivolous with the finances!
I'd like to try for £50 but not including petrol or toll charges as I already budget for this and spend 60-70 a week on it mainly for getting to and from work.
Good luck everyone!LBM - 08/08/11, total debt at LBM = £13,472.93 :eek:MOT/Service fund - £230.22; halifax cc £314.60/£284.60 (9.5%); Natwest cc £2,106.53/£2076.53 (1.42%); halifax loan £11,051.80Weekly Spend Challenge £9.07/£50; Nifty Thrify Aug 0lbs/4lbs £89.16/£350 (25.47%); PAD from 08/08/11 - £89.16; 1 debt vs 100 days £59.16/£600 (9.86%)0 -

well, i spent £1.30 today on a blueberry muffin at lunchtime but thats all really.
(i did buy my son a second hand bike this morning for £15.00 but his trike is up for sale on ebay, and im looking to at least triple what i spent today so im not counting it properly from my budget for the week!)
So officially thats £1.30 / £30.000
