Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Yellow - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Hi all

I'm pledging £60 this week. Off out for my sister's birthday meal shortly, so I won't be back here until tonight. If I've made any glaring errors please shout and I'll sort them out!

    Have a lovely Sunday all

hey. thought id come back here for another week - found it quite helpful keeping tabs on my official spending. it was a little difficult as i did buy a few things with my birthday money from thursday that i didnt include in my weekly spends, but they were things i wouldnt have bought otherwise so i maintain that the money i did put down here was from my official budget :)

for this week i said i would try to not go over £75.00 i think.

this morning we nipped to the car boot sale and i spent £4.00 (£2.00 on a radio control car toy, £1.00 on some clarks boots for my son, and £1.00 for a go on a bouncy castle - i would like to say it was me who had a go on this, but again it was for my son :D )

Total this week so far is therefore £4.00 / £75.00.

oh - and after feeling lucky on the lottery last night, i did indeed win - just £10.00 but its better than a kick in the teeth! :)

    Afternoon all,

Thanks for starting the thread LC. I hope you have a good week it sounds like you have everything planned.

I am pledging £50 for this week as I am ignoring my winnings for the moment and just trying to stick to my usual budget.

Been to the cinema this morning to see Horrible Bosses which was excellent and effectively free as I have a cinema card.

Hope you are all enjoying your Sunday.

    Hello everyone!

LC - thanks for running this week's thread and sorry to hear that you've had a rough time recently :(

Last week I came in green (just!), with £185 spent out of my pledge £185! Phew! This week, I have no big spends in the pipe line, so I'll pledge a much more reasonable £40 - thanks again LC!

Congrats on your winnings Pointy and jo-urney! Any spare luckiness will be gratefully received if sent this way! ;)

Good luck staying within budget everyone, and I hope you're all enjoying the sunshine! Have a good week! sunshine.gif

    Hi everyone,

Hopefully it's ok for me to jump straight in - thank you LC for starting the thread!

I'm trying to get through the month without touching either my savings or using my credit card (apart from for budgeted petrol for the clubcard points!) so hopefully by joining a couple of challenges I can achieve this!

I'd like to budget from Saturday 30th to Friday 5th if that's ok... Total incidental spends target of £23.75 of which I've already spent £4.79 on wine :o, £4.99 on compost and £4.49 on work lunch stuff which leaves me a total of £9.38 to last the week! Thankfully, I'm at work for most of it, and have an essay and lots of compost now to plant some seeds to distract me from the shops, so should hopefully be achievable!

    Good luck everyone!

I didn't spend anymore last week, so my final total was £6.54 I think.

This week I'm going to bring my spends down to £30 though it'll be tougher! what i really want to do is get my weekly budget in line so that when I spend less I can put it away at the end of each week. I need to get through the next couple of months first!

I spent nothing yesterday, I'm going to try and have 10 NSD's this month too.
I've bought milk this morning too.

So this week so far is 99p

    Hi all

I've updated the first post, hope I've done it right!

Trying not to think about the horrible stuff, but it's being made impossible. D'Oh! I've had 2 cigs today but had them off someone else. Avoiding buying a pack of 10 as then I'll def smoke them. Probably the worst week ever to quit smoking, or attempt to!!!

    31 Jul - Coffee - £2.75
    31 Jul - Cigs - £6.50
    31 Jul - White wine and soda - £3.95
    1 Aug - Milk and Bananas - £1.71
    Total so far: £14.91/£60

Well done on your lottery win jo-urney, I'd be dead excited to get a tenner!! pp another well done to you for being so restrained!! I'd find it incredibly difficult! When's your weekend away dff? Thanks chris, I'm not going to keep banging on about it, but I will say that if I fail to quit the cigs this week, then that's why. Actually I've already failed today by having a couple! kjp that's a very specific amount! Welcome to the thread! And sibles well done on your low amount last week!

Hi all! I'm back! Had a lovely and (mostly) relaxing week away with the family, and the weather was perfect! I managed to keep my spending fairly restrained (mum and dad are very generous!) but as a result I am now very very skint! Doesn't help that OH hasn't been paid yet AGAIN  Really annoys me that his boss is so blase about paying him for the work he does - he worked 7 days last week and still waiting for payment!

Anyway, will stop going on about that now :D Have caught up on the old threads. Hi to the newbies, congrats to those that won money last week (jealous!) and sorry to hear about the tough time you're having LC. And good luck with the quitting smoking!

Due to the lack of money in my life right now, I'm going to be even more frugal than usual with my spending. I'm out Friday night with a couple of friends but nothing else planned, so will pledge £20 for the week. Today I spent 50p on a bottle of water but nothing else. I think that's pretty good going seeing as I'm not at work! I do fancy a couple of cans of cider or bottle of wine though.... hmmm. We'll see what happens!

Anyway, yeah, £20 and fingers crossed that OH gets paid so I can pay some bills/debts!!

    Have a good week everyone
