    Hiya

I've just signed up to Phoenix and have received a couple of quotes of Phoenix endorsed gas installers, so I'm questioning the "who to avoid" thing? Pardon my ignorance but I'm new to gas as well so would like to be well equipped with info. Also can someone advise whether Firmus or Airtricity? Pros and cons of each?

    Many thanks

  • Hi everyone

I, too am thinking of changing to gas from oil, and would be very interested in who to avoid.

Woul also be keen to have recommendations as I hope to be getting quotes in a few weeks time.

    All suggestions welcome

    Thanks
  • hi all

same as above, i am looking for the list of decent gas installers in the west belfast/lisburn area. if someone could send me it, it would be much appreciated.

also if you could give me any advice as to what questions i should be asking the installers, my installation options etc would also be appreciated.

    thanks
  • Just a quick question.
Of those who have had quotes - what boiler were you advised to get?

I am curious because I wonder is Phoenix give installer incentives to use one brand/model over another.

I've spoken to 2 work colleagues who were advised to install Worcester Bosch (two different models)
  • Hi all

This is the first time I have used MSE forum

I would also like to know who to use from the list of installers given to me by Phoenix and what questions I should ask. Changing from oil to gas as boiler is 30 years old.
    many thanks
  • Hi,

I am looking to switch from economy 7 to gas - does anyone have a list of recommended installers or ones to avoid?

It's a small apartment and just looking to switch for heating and plumbing over to gas. Any views of estimated cost?

What questions should I be asking the installers quoting to avoid surprises?

    Thanks

Have just contacted Phoenix with a view to replacing my oil heating with gas in the next few months. It's a 3 bedroom terrace in Newtownabbey. Any info on who to use/avoid in the Newtownabbey area?

Ditto. Have applied for a grant for gas installation and want to know who to avoid
  • Got a quote from Houston and Thornton , £2860  , this was for a small 3 bedroom mid-terrace , no real extras just a basic fitting , was the cheaper boiler model as well (Gloworm not a Worcester Bosch). Think they're chancing their arm ?
  • Hello I would appreciate any advice on getting gas installed to replace economy 7 heating in a small Housing Executive bungalow. Can I get a grant to help with the costs or a social fund loan? Can anyone recommend a trustworthy company to do the job? How much should it be? Do I ring Phoenix to see if the street I am moving to is connected? My husband and I are both medically retired/disabled and need easy cheap reliable heating.
    Thank you for any information.

As I said before, go for the cashback scheme and a "Phoenix" registered fitter to avail of it and all you get is a massive bill. Shop around outside of the phoenix approved installers and you will find someone else can do it cheaper even without the cashback... I did and saved well over £1000 on a complete house re-fit costing just over £5500.!! that was everything from the mains water pipe entering the house!! Included all pipwork, radiators, entire downstairs done with underfloor heating, Worster Bosch boiler, all fully fitted
