Igamogam and Newleaf...you're absolutely right. We should apply anyway. Nothing at all to lose and it would help pay for a car when that time comes.

Thank you both for being so supportive and helpful. :)

Absolutely apply - have you got a CAB near you? If you find the forms daunting, make an appointment with them and they'll be able to help you fill them in. They've also got much more experience of the boxes that need ticking, if you see what I mean. My ex husband has arthritis in his spine, which is a variable condition depending on the weather, and he was advised to answer the questions as if it were a bad day. On a good day he could walk to the corner shop and back, though it took it out of him. On a bad day he could barely get out of bed. He thought he'd be turned down outright, but ended up with lower rate care and higher rate mobility.

    Hi Ani,

I remembered posting on your diary waaay back and saw your name pop up earlier....so I've just spent the last few hours catching up on everything! I thought I'd subscribed to you before but I definitley have now!

Can't believe how well you've done considering everything, was so pleased that you managed to keep your job hope it picks up soon once it has all settled down, its horrible saying goodbye. In November on a normal Tuesday morning in our office, one by one people would get a phone call to attend a meeting on the 12th floor (where the board and external meeting rooms are) and they never came back. The secretary would discreetly collect their handbag and take it to them in reception. It was bl00dy awful. 5 people went but they didn't officialy inform those that were left until 2pm of the situation - not that we didn't figure it out of course! - needless to say no one wanted their phone to ring that day! Not sure if its better for it to be done quickly like that or be able to stick around a bit...

anyway... well done for reaching your targets for paying your car expenses in full and clearing the OD and everything else so far. I'll keep up with you now :)

Ok Ms ani* so happy for you. You are accomplishing loads even though for awhile you felt you were going in reverse.

How are the car negotiations coming xx

Igamogam...my sleep pattern has just gone out the window with all the stress of the job situation so I'm quite often finding myself napping in the evening, wide awake all night and wandering around like a zombie during the day! I'm trying to get back into a regular routine but it's not easy. I'm pondering a herbal remedy, Kalms or something, need to see.

Cazmanian_minx...hi there :wave:and many thanks for your advice about dla. We tried using CAB before, filled the form in as though it were a 'bad' day and still got knocked back. They couldn't understand it either. On bad days, my OH is stuck in bed too and often unable to make it to the kitchen or the bathroom. DLA was only awarded 3 years ago cos I had to take unpaid leave from work to be a carer for several months, was stressed out and tearful, and still had to go to an appeal interview. On that day, OH couldn't leave the our home and was throwing up everywhere and I had to get a neighbour to take over while I went out. The interview was absolutely awful with constant suggestions that none of it was as bad as I was making out. Anyway, that's probably enough details for the moment but just to say, I have no faith that DLA is available for when you really need it and I decided then and there to not put myself through that humiliation again. Incidentally, that time of our lives was where about £5k of the debt came from. We had no income at all for a while. I'm pleased for you that your partner has managed to claim though. It can be a life saver.

Londongirl252...hello again! :wave:How are you doing? Need to go and catch up on your diary too. Your experience of redundancy sounds like absolute hell. How do they get away with it? It's completely immoral! So, 750 posts is the magic number? Need to get busy...:D

NewLeaf...the car idea is on hold at the moment, until the end of the summer. By that point we will know what's happening with DLA and how much my new work arrangements will reduce my petrol costs by. Seems sensible to do it like that but really, I want OH to have a car right now whatever the cost. Periods of good health need to be enjoyed to the full. Am currently feeling really miserly! Not good!

Anyway, I'm off to another leaving lunch today, paid for by my employer, so anticipating a sad time of it. One more week left of uni before the summer break. (What kind of course is still going in July?! Thought we'd be done by June at the latest.) Have booked some annual leave in 3 weeks time so I'm looking forward to that. I'm hoping by the time I go back, somebody somewhere at work will have figured out what's going on and what we're all supposed to be doing. Seems a bit ambitious but I can hope. :D

Happy debt-busting day everyone. Make it a good one even though the weather's carp! :D

Try rescue remedy or kalms, they really helped during my exams when I couldnt sleep and during the day to ease anxiousness...

Hi  I'm good thanks! Nothing much to tell, almost halfway there as the siggy says so ploughing on! Yes it was horrible, not sure... I think because our industry is not unionised and its "the city" therefore pretty cut throat but there you go! Yep go for it!!! :rotfl:
    Hope your lunch is OK

I have spent today reading through your debt diary, you have done so well getting yourself to the situation you are now in.

I have to say I do agree with the above. I did not think we would qualify for Attendance Allowence for my husband, but I applied to to my surprise we got it, so go for it and see if you can get money towards a car for your OH.

We are still paying down moving 3 times in 3 years. We moved to a cottage very similar to the one you are in, we too had oil central heating and a wood burning stove, so I know where you are coming from with heating costs.

The winter of 2010 was dreadful for us too, we were snowed in for 5 weeks, thanks to a good store cupboard and a full freezer we managed, however it became obvious that at 68 and 78 we needed to be nearer to facilities. We were lucky enough to get an appartment in a complex, just off the main street in our local market town, where evrything is close at hand and within walking distance, so we moved our third move in three years. We have been here for 16 months and I am just getting to grips with paying off our credit card debt.

I will post a diary, but I just wanted to say well done for making the progress you have, I will bookmark your posts so I can follow your progress.
