Tales from a country cottage

I bought 2 pictures for my new cottage in the middle of July before I moved. I hate them and they'e wierd and bent. I just emailed the store to ask if they will take them back.
That would be good. :j Need to wait and see though. If you know you have enough, you're rich.

I bought a pair of hair straighteners in my shopping frenzy. GHD no less. Brand new. £100 right there. Ouch!
They sent me 2 pairs by mistake. And 4 weeks on they still haven't noticed. So I'm going to sell the second pair. Should get £75 for them.
Is that immoral? Not that I'm bothered.

I have a challenge coming up too. I need to go into hospital for a small procedure. Nothing major, just a skin thing. However, I need to have a general anaesthetic, so I can't drive. My pal will pick me up afterwards and bring me home but I need to find my way there.
The taxi will cost about £25. I'm thinking that's just too much.
It's half an hour walk to the nearest village where I catch a bus, then another 2 buses and all the hassle of connections, to get where I'm going.
I could probably walk to the nearest train station in about an hour then catch a train and walk again at the other end.
Hhmm.
I'm on a mission to get there as cheaply as possible, preferably for free.
DO you have Freegle in your neck of the woods - I often see people on hours asking for/offering lifts or indeed train tickets - worth a tryI bought a pair of hair straighteners in my shopping frenzy. GHD no less. Brand new. £100 right there. Ouch!

hi well done for coming back, you're right, i always find i hide from this site when things aren't going great and finances are getting worse, it's silly because no one holds it against you when you come back and say 'ok i made a mistake' we've all done it.
Just one comment about your SOA, do you think that you should start saving monthly for your TV licence and car insurance so you can continue to pay it outright next year? Just a thought, it's what i do so that i don't have to pay their 'finance' charges if i would have ordinarily had to pay monthly.
Glad to see you back0 -
Hi there Lemontree

Yes it's good to be back but to be honest, it was more the distress of the last few months that kept me away, and being completely anti social. I just wanted to hide and wait until I felt better. Which I do now so yey to that!
Hope you're all having a splendid money saving day.

I heard from the shop today where I bought those pictures. They are happy for me to return them to my local branch so that's great and a total refund of £15.98. Woo hoo!!! :jIf you know you have enough, you're rich.

It's good to be back and I missed you all too.
Well, today I saved myself some cash in buying a wireless router. I've been complaining ever since I moved house that I need wifi cos I don't like all those cables all over the place. This morning I actually took the time to look at my router. I noticed a green light, which was lit, saying 'wifi' with a little symbol. I then rummaged through the small bag of stuff they had sent with it and found a card saying 'Details to set up a wireless connection'. The steps were easy to follow so here I am, posting on a wireless connection. Could it have been any more straightforward?! And can you tell this is something OH used to deal with?
The next thing is trying to get tv sorted. So I'm not a massive fan of tv, I'm more into dvd box sets and listening to music, but it would be nice to watch the news and odd movie. I have a dish of some sort on the outside of my cottage. I bought a sky box online for £25 (could have got one on freecycle for nothing if I'd waited, meh!). It arrived with no power lead, no lead to connect it to the tv (HDMI, evidently. See what I'm learning?) and no remote control. This is what we used in the old place, but I've been informed that it won't work without a card. So where do I get a card? And is the lead to plug it in actually called a power lead, or something else?
Anyway, after I've fixed all of that I'm going to learn how to put my photos from my mobile onto my laptop, then music from my laptop onto my phone.
It's a whole new world and the temptation to get someone else to do it for me is HUGE. But I'm a grown up of reasonable intelligence so I should be able to figure it out.
Have a great moneysaving day everyone. It's set to be a scorcher up here.
If you know you have enough, you're rich.
