 Hmmm ..... now which bit to start with ...Do you know about Approved Foods?
Do you have a store cupboard?
Do you use the printable coupon thread?
http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/index.html?opt=p3m1
now you do have to be careful because of Mr GA's diabetes but this will help to reduce your food bill and the food is delicious and nutritious.) / Nope .. didnt know there was one
Like the look of that site, you may need to send a search party after me :rotfl:where do you shop? ie sainsburys, morrisons, asda, tesco, co-op, local greengrocers, local butchers, etc.
Usually Mr T's or Co-op (both the nearest to me), but have been starting to do comparisons on much of my regular / base items before moving on to the fresh stuff (Intention to GYO as much as poss for next year too)
Suggestion for Mr GA - if he is at home all day by himself, leave the pot mellow, only flush when it is not mellow. This will cut down on the water usage.
Good idea - if I can just get him to remember it - Still struggling with getting him to only charge stuff overnight (cheaper rate electric) and to turn things off at the plug ... all things he used to do, but now forgets or doesn't think about
Can you get him one of those tv blanket things. Can't think what they are called, but you wear it over the front, has sleeves and reaches to the floor. Is very warm. Leaves you free to move around and do things but keeps you warm. Would save on some of the heating bills.
I have one of them myselfBut Mr GA doesn't like them, and refuses to use things like that ... might be able to encourage a lap blanket ... only just got him to the idea of slippers to keep feet warm
With your curtains, are they lined? The ones you draw at night? If so, and the lining is thin, you know you can line them with fleece, and this will help keep the heat in the house, and not going out of the window. If you pin the fleece to the curtains, you can take it down when the weather gets warmer.
Some are lined but not all, and none with fleecy stuff .. will look at that !!
Do you have a draughty front door? if so, get a fleece curtain to cover it, to keep the heat in and the draughts out, the same with the back door.
Yep, and a kitchen one and internal "patio" ones too :rotfl: Have got a curtain for front door - need to put up a proper pole / rail for it this year though (was tacked on to wall with drawing pins last year) and yes, also need to do same with kitchen door. Patio ones do have curtains accross, but not heavy enough or lined - good reminder need to look at that. Don't even want to think about the conservatory
Looks like I need to do more than just dip my toes in over on the OS boards :rotfl:
Had a brief look at those last links re the PIP n things ... my head is spinning again ... sure it's deliberate to make people give up before they start  I'd like to think I'm reasonably intelligent - but they just confuse me totally.
Did I miss any bits ? Will answer the other bit in a while ... need to sort dinner out

good pleased to hear you use Tesco and co-op - these vouchers can be used at both
with Tesco you can do "the difference" - with co-op earn vouchers and shop cheaply
(although you still earn vouchers with Tesco)
do you have a butchers near where you live?
understand about hubby. Still trying to get DH used to switching things off standby when he is not watching them and going upstairs/downstairs/to sleep. He said it saves energy, I said no it don't! You use 80% of the same energy!
yep - you can get fleeces cheaply from Ts and other places.
yep, run over to OS and sit and read with lots of coffee :rotfl:
it will be so worth it.
Was thinking about your broadband. Have you looked at plusnet? they currently have an offer that is fixed for 12 months.
http://www.plus.net/packages/broadband-calls/
not saying it is going to be cheaper - you will need to check out the website and small print and maybe chat to them.0 -
about PIP - just wanted to give you heads up they are changing the benefit system.
and see that Martin has it in the box on the right, the Latest MSE News.0 -

"The Difference" ? is that a new dance craze or something ?
do you have a butchers near where you live?
Several in reasonable distance - but not investigated many of them yet.

Intravenous drip anyone ?
it will be so worth it.
Hmmmm, depends on how many matchsticks I need to prop the eyes open with because I'm still reading a silly o'clock

Hi there
Ref the fleece for lining etc. don't forget charity shops and freecycle/freegle on the net for this. Also if you look at the quidco site, I am sure there is a link to a couple of curtain makers. You only have to get an appt to get the money NOT buy anything!
Ref the DLA, I really think you should get someone in to appeal this. You HAVE to know just the right thing to say and also not sugar coat the pill, ie about how DH is on the WORST of days. I don't mean to be mean but if his issues are as you say, then it is unlikely that he would be able to return to the work place. And that should have a positive impact on the amount of money you can get. If DH has to have more assessments, then tell him to be himself - grumpiness and impatience and all - my guess is they are a product of the stroke, so should come out of an assessment too....
I don't really know for sure how it works now, but I did think charges were being refunded in hardship cases, but you have to do it as an individual... maybe check with your local CAB?
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

I think this is part of the problem, as unless I go with him .. and interupt / disagree with what he tells people - he does have a tendancy to make out that he's doing well, and no problems etc, which just isnt the caseIt's kind of like he's in denial to the world, but it's a very different scenario when at home. He really was a very different person before the stroke.

Thank you again - I'll look into this for sure.

(((((((((((GA)))))))))) and (((((((((((((Mr GA)))))))))))))
I don't think people realise how everyone is affected when someone has a stroke and is in recovery from it. For the person who suffered the stroke, it is the lack of independence, frustration at not being able to do what they could before the stroke, frustration at what they are now limited to, etc.
It is very hard for everybody.0
