I am little bit sceptical about selling things on ebay. My unwanted brand new Levi's jeans sold just for £4.7 few weeks ago. All right, all right I would not wear them anyway as they were two sizes too big but still -less than fiver for Levi's :(

That's the nature of eBay I guess.... you can get some great bargains, but it's also possible that you end up almost giving things away as a seller. Always best to start with a higher starting price if you'd be unhappy with your items selling below a certain value.
  • I am a bit of an eBay fanatic, some of my faves sales have been:

Skirt bought in sale at Oasis for £5 - too short - sold for £22
Child's coat from the 60's bought for £1.50 in charity shop - sold to BBC for £16
Mini-Car badge found in garage when bought house - listed for £3, sold for £30!

But my ultimate has to be just before Christmas - I had promised a friend she could buy my iPhone as I was upgrading - obviously would give 'mates-rates' but didn't have a clue what to ask for. Anyway, I dropped it and cracked the screen...gave apologies, and listed on eBay - it sold for £165 - I would never have asked my friend for that much!!

That said I've had a few items that I've grudgingly had to post off when the price has been very low, especially with eBay's new postage policy - DVDs having to be free is quite simply outrageous - don't they all weigh roughly the same?! Surely eBay could set a max amount...

I also did charity listings for a while, and used to list rather bizarre items...vegetables in compromising positions...please don't ask...and all sold, and some to quite high value...

Loving this thread...especially GB down the loo - I have a GB sitting idle in a drawer with quite a few games...wonder if should get little one to poop on it first?! Hehe!

My mum went through a weird patch of buying 'crap' in charity shops then listing it on ebay.

She did pretty well out of it - i think nearly everything sold for a profit, but the best was a pie funnel that she bought for 80p - it sold for £83!!!

Oh for Goodness' Sake!! Here we go again :(
Total debt £4,839.51 (Still adding it up though :( )
    Now : £4, 759.81

Mostly it was things like nice ornaments, glass things, sometimes books, but not shoes / clothes, although i can't see why some of those wouldn't sell.

I think she was sometimes just a little naughty with the postage, BUT if people didn't like it they didn't have to bid.

I would give anything a try, especially now that it's free to list from 99p.

Word of warning (as if any of you would!) don't get someone you know to bump up your bids, if you can be connected by computer in any way, eg you have logged in to your ebay on their computer.

  • I have quite a few items that think I can sell, however, I don't have that much luck when it comes to eBay. A few of my items never sold. I re-auctioned them on eBay and still they didn't sell! What am I doing wrong? I will try listing the items on Thursday for 10 days and see if that makes a difference.
  • Try selling unique items that are not available at mass retailers or were special items, such as:
    - Cookware - special series or by designers
    - Small appliances - with unique features
    - Golf clubs - special clubs, grips, series, etc.
    - Paintings - including copies and prints
    - Exercise equipment - for special exercises
    - Furniture - with special features

Look in your basement, attic and garage for stuff -- that someone might consider special for them.
