  • i have so much i could sell.

I have one question, how much would it cost to ship a large item like a double glazing door or a suround sound system??

Alos do you think i could sell used kids toys??
  • I sold a copy of the Big Issue on Ebay to an American for £5 (think I paid a quid for it). It had Angelina Jolie on the cover, and was around the time of the Tomb Raider film.

I also once sold 22 copies of Classic Rock Magazine in the same month, mostly to Americans, for a tenner a pop (cost me £3.30 each). It had Def Leppard on the cover, who knew they were so popular!

I used to sell loads of brand new mags in this way, but it was a lot of work, and the exchange rate to the US became unfavourable, not sure what its like now.

Personally I'd list larger items like that as 'collection only'. It may limit your buyers, but if people are looking for those kind of things then they may just be prepared to travel for a bargain.

As for kids toys - yes they definitely sell if they are in decent clean condition, but I'd advise searching completed listings before you put them up. You may not get a lot for them, so you have to decide if it's worth your time and effort. If you have a lot to get rid of and are prepared to make the effort then a couple of quid here and there soon mounts up.

  • Hi everyone, great thread, have read through it all and made notes!

I'm about to start trying to sell some stuff on ebay and wondered what the best length of auction is.

Somewhere on the thread someone has suggested that the best time to list is on a Thursday evening with a 3 day or 10 day listing so that the auction finishes on a Sunday evening. Do people agree with this?

Is it worth offering a "Buy it now" price as an alternative to bidding?

I need to sell a kidney and my soul to the highest bidder before the bailiffs come to get them.

I ALWAYS start on a Thursday evening, usually 8pm, with a 10-day listing. Gives it that much more exposure and generates interest. If it's an auction, I don't add a B-I-N option. If it's a B-I-N listing, I add a 'Best Offer' option, letting people think they're getting an even better deal by haggling me down a little. You can also set it up to reject any offers below a certain amount, so you don't have to waste your time responding to 500 1p offers!!!

I agree with Thursdays 10 day listing - you get two weekends worth of watchers coming through.

Also listing today on a 10 day listing would finish on Bank Holiday Monday so its a good day for sales
Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/155

I am little bit sceptical about selling things on ebay. My unwanted brand new Levi's jeans sold just for £4.7 few weeks ago. All right, all right I would not wear them anyway as they were two sizes too big but still -less than fiver for Levi's :(

If you have to ship large items, go through a shipping agent - it's much cheaper than going direct through, say, DHL or Parcelforce. There's a big thread here - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1397925 - about the best services.... I've always found FreightSearch to be the best value for UK deliveries, with excellent service too.

As for kids toys, I'm not sure you'll get much for them, so once you've factored in fees and postage, I think a car boot sale might be the better option... or the local charity shop if you just want the space!
