Old Style Thread for Sunday 21st August

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 21st August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good Morning x
Im up with Kids Dad and DD as they are off to see if the balloons are flying at our local fiesta.
Jackie G - glad MIL is recovering and that she has you both to help her out x We are hopefully getting a Ford Galaxy as it will have the space for my dogs, scooter and kids (in that order
) However my old car has to limp on until late October as there is a long waiting list:eek:
Im hoping to get some baking done today and will enlist some folks to help out. Also need DS3 to vac as cleaner is not here until Thursday:(
Ok will catch up later x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

What a lovely post, have a great day, bargainbird. If I could lend you my stepladder I would, the best blackberries are always at the top of the bramble, just slightly out of reach but well worth braving the thorns for.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Morning :hello:
Mr tru actually asked if I was depressed because I have no interest in anything. Then we had a huge row :rotfl: I explained (loudly) that I'm not the !!!!ing maid and I may still be the kid's mum but I'm not their mummy anymore. And I'm interested in plenty of things, thanks very much, but they don't include making sure that you've got a clean t-shirt for work or re-cleaning the kitchen just because you've all walked in and made a mess.
I've altered my strike tactics slightlyI did clean the hob the other day - it was starting to look like a health hazard, lol. And I cleaned the bathroom, I wouldn't have bothered but I have use it too. If we had two bathrooms, I'd only keep one clean. But I make sure I do these jobs when everyone's home so they can see what I'm doing, and it's a huge inconvenience to them because that's when they want to cook, have a shower etc. It's driving them mad
On monday night, master tru started to put wood flooring (got it for free!) down in the hall then stopped halfway through because he noticed the radiator pipe was wet. We fixed it on tuesday night, then the pipe at the other end started leaking. We fixed that on wednesday. Thursday he had no time to do anything, friday and saturday he managed to finish most of it and put the skirtings on. We have three short planks left to do in the utility room. The whole house has been in chaos all week
On the plus side, we finally have a decent crop of tomatoes, we've pickled loads of homegrown beetroot, have a large jar of pickled eggs, we've been harvesting potatoes and they're lovely and we found a SHOP that makes and sells fabulous cheese, along with bread, fruit, veg etc. They make their own butter, which is cheaper than the value butter in the supermarkets.
I've bought some bits and pieces for my biz, I'm making notebooks and calendars like there's no tomorrowI've got some display stands (for free), just need to find shops who'll agree to put them up now.

Morning everyone. Hugs and thoughts to everyone who needs them. Some sunshine outside, but I woudn't trust it with my washing.
Busy day yesterday. Emergency houseguest (EH) brought all his stuff over, with the help of his parents, who then drove all the way back home.
Tea was a fridge-emptying pasta sauce with HM dough balls and wine before he and DH indulged in some two player PS3 gaming, while I got on with deconstructing a CS jumper. EH will be with us until Friday, before he goes to see his folks, and he's aiming to get some flat viewings done this week ,with a view to getting a rental sorted for the beginning of next month.
Today, we will be visiting Mr A, then I will leave the gentlemen to their own devices while I have some windowshopping girly time for a couple of hours. I need to crack on with some menu planning, so have a good day everyone.Surviving the ups and downs of life with DH

Morning all!
Bargainbird - much better today! OH came home and i think realised what he's been like, he's been very nice since then. He's off to work again today, I've got 2 weeks booked off in November, and i think we're going to have to go on a break together then. Just need to decide where to go!
I'm having another chill day today, LL is over to check out the downstairs tenant on weds, so will try and put the garden into some kind of order.
Dinner is mint and balsamic marinated lamb with all the trimmings, and as OH is working locally he wants to meet for lunch.
I need to go have a shower
speak later all

a bit bleary eyed here today. ds was up for just over two hours in the night crying for no obvious reason. he wanted me to lie in his bed with him on top of me :undecided ended up giving him some calpol just rule out he was in pain of any kind but still didnt settle him. gave him a drink and he didnt want that... then he just fell back to sleep. he's still asleep now but i was up bright and breezy at 6
but that means i've had a long, peaceful soak in the bath. the dishwasher and washing machine are going too. the dishwasher still wasnt cleaning properly. hubby did it yesterday and it worked perfectly... he also rearranged my living room for me yesterday and hoovered and dusted etc. looks a lot better now and no clutter!! it has been completely gutted
also yesterday went to costco and spent £85  but have got enough meat to last well over the next month or so. also got some sauce to go on chicken and it is just  its like soy sauce but tastes so  even ds tasted it and came back for more, then a bit more... that should take our food budget right down as we will only need to get fresh bits and milk/bread. they had bags of 5kg sugar for £4.50 (normal sugar) the icing sugar and caster were even cheaper but same sized bags. also got a hhhuuuggggeeee punnet of blueberries (ds' favourite at the mo!) for £2.50. same with raspberries.
anyway got bit carried away theremy neck is feeling a bit better this morning but hubby has just wandered downstairs complaining his neck is sore. think it may be time for new pillows
plan for today - hubby was going to take ds to kids am at the cinema. film starts at 10 but have told hubby to let ds sleep as long as he needs otherwise he will be a grouch all day. so if he is up in time they are off to do that.
this afternoon there is a 4x4 show. has lots of craft activities and fun things to do as well. will go to that as long as it doesnt pour down again.
foodwise - hubby will have a bacon sarnie for lunch. ds probably cheese on toast and worchester(sp) sauce () as he adores it at the moment! dinner tonight i am debating whether to do a lamb hotpot or whether to just chuck it in the slowcooker with some veg (not much difference really!)
hugs to anyone who needs them today. have peaceful sunday everyone!"I have learnt that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one""You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”Maya Angelou0 -
Morning all
, just a quick one from me, have church this morning and then the rest of the day will be spent finishing an OU assignment which I was going to do this coming week, but now I'm having the operation tomorrow that was cancelled the other week, so won't be up to doing the assignment straight after that.
HUGS to all, and some matchsticks for bargainbirdAny chance you could catch a quick snooze later in the day?
Although I don't post often atm I do read most days and think of you all :A
Belated birthday greetings to those I've missed, esp tired mum:beer:
Best wishes, ivyleaf xx0 -
Good morning all
I'm aching after doing a lot of gardening yesterday - digging a new bed has tweaked muscles I had long forgotten I had! I took some cuttings from my enormous rosemary and sage plants/bushes - I am planning on doing some herb pots for Christmas gifts this year and they ought to be OK for December.
Dinner today will be roast pork (whoopsied) and veg followed by HM rhubarb crumble (rhubarb was reduced to 19p/400g - bargain!).
I need to make some bread rolls at some point - I have a week off work this week and am taking the DDs to a local nature trail for a walk/picnic tomorrow and rolls are less likely to get squashed, in theory at least...
Otherwise I have a quiet day at home planned - hope you all have a lovely day
