Don't forget interfering MIL's........

is it right to start married life in debt after blowing the 2nd mortgage on the wedding......................
Oh yes! Forgot the "I'm getting a loan to pay for my dress" style threads. :rotfl: Life would be boring if we all agreed all the time.0 -
I do like that everyone contributes like they will change anyone else's opinion! Such passion about these subjects.
I've yet to see great passion around chair covers - I suppose if I stay on this forum long enough it will appear!0 -
I am not for or against a free bar - if you want one, have one. I definately would not expect it.
However, it's sad to see how little of their friends and family so many of you think. "No premium spirits/beers/cocktails because it will be expensive and x drinks like a fish!"
Sad face. :["What day is it?"
"It's today," squeaked Piglet.
"My favorite day," said Pooh."0 -

At my hen do, my mum took me to one side and said that as a surprise she was putting £250 towards the cost of the meal / drinks. One of my cousins was walking past and overheard. For the rest of the evening she only drank tequila and sambuca. Prior to that she'd been drinking wine like everyone else.
At the wedding, she went up to the bar with cash, ordered a glass of wine, then when she found out it was a free bar, she then tried to order a cocktail.
It's not thinking badly of my guests, it's knowing what they're like!Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -

Hi all,
OH2B is insistent on a free bar at our wedding. I've come round to the idea but still think it is a bit of an extravagance we could do without.
But would it be mean of [STRIKE]us [/STRIKE] me to restrict things slightly by saying it doesn't include premium beers and spirits or cocktails?
I just think some people would take advantage completely by ordering doubles of the most expensive vodka or whiskey or whatever, and collecting drinks!
What do others think? And, yes I AM prepared for people to disagree with me and tell me I'm a tightwad!
what about giving people drinks tickets or putting a set amount behind the bar otherwise the dronk costs could spiral:kisses3: Married 29th September 2012

I have loved this thread. I haved only ever been to one wedding with a free bar, I didnt know it was free and had drove to the wedding lol, my friend did the free bar until after the meals and then after that a cash bar resumed, she says it didnt actually cost as much as you would think it did, she may have had very civalised friends though

I wanted to do as susann says, a free bar till after the meals as not everyone will be happy with the free wine. I want to get little voucher things and give each person one. but ive been told this is wrong but i dont care lol xxxAccept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue. Only fools are statues every day. (15.09.12 cant wait!)0

I don't think there's anything wrong with that all.:)
As I've said before, I've more of an issue with putting on a free bar but stipulating that people can only drink cheap drinks/no doubles etc.
If my great aunty Margaret usually drinks a double Gordons and slimline, and I want to buy her a drink at my wedding, I want her to be able to have a double Gordons and slimline, not a single no-mark Gin and slimline. Otherwise I may as well not buy her a drink IMO.0 -
if we do happen to become rich we can just put on a free bar for the evening but im not to worried about that.
I just cant be dealing with the stress on the day of oh such and such has got 8 drinks, or such and such is drinking champers again i dont think i know people like that but if i did, I wouldnt be pleased! some people wouldnt be bothered who drinks what, but i would and if people take the mick i would be mad.
with vouchers, that way we can pay at the end of the night, for the day guests drinks which they got with the vouchers and, if we do happen to become rich we can just put on a free bar to a set amount for the evening and i wont care who drinkswhat because we would be rich hahaha. xxxAccept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.
