    Thoughts on re-canvassing

I'm always one to say that Avon's territory system is good because it gives you the right to canvas an area with no other reps canvassing it (by which I mean actively trying to gain new customers - not reps who have existing customers there). But I'd always add that it comes with the responsibility of re-canvassing it. My previous ASM said every 6 months was fine and it doesn't sound too much work to do it twice a year.

So even though it's not a big ask, it still feels like a fruitless task. I've had my streets for 6 months, 10 months and 14 months now (depending on the street because I kept adding to my round). For several campaigns they get covered intensively, and then I end up with a list of "regulars" (not necessarily customers yet) and "re-canvas" (RC).

Last RC, in C14, I picked up 1 new customer who's been a bit difficult to deliver to but I'll carry on with. And 1 person wanted a book and even called to me down the street for one and hasn't even read any of the 4 books they've had.

I'm doing an RC now, in C18, and could see that most of the books had been put outside as soon as they'd been spotted on the doormat. Even more books weren't returned at all. Only 2 people (out of about 50 books put out) ticked a box to opt-out of more books.

The area where I live has little movement in and out. If there is any I spot it on Rightmove and don't really class that as re-canvassing since the homeowner's changed.

My next RC will be in May, so hopefully by then I'll be in a more optimistic mood about it, but right now even a twice-yearly RC seems like a waste of time. Wondering whether next November I should approach all houses again with a book even if they said no. It will have been at least 18 months since they last saw me by then.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

You're quite right that all territory reps are supposed to recanvass their territory regularly but I get the feeling - rightly or wrongly - that very few actually do. That's also why ASMs like to get new reps into areas because chances are they will canvass that street thoroughly (at least for the first time). Human nature (aka laziness) then seems to take over once a rep has established a 'comfortable' customer base, which is why sometimes reps do come across people, who haven't had a book offered at their door for yonks.

Sounds like you're taking your territory seriously, IG, and well done you. It also sounds though like you're doing a lot of possibly fruitless work.... Remember, if a street is not working for you there is always the option to email your ASM and ask for it to be released and you be allocated a different street.

  • Hey all,

Does anyone know about the “new customer” requests on AC?
Only I seem to be receiving them often now, And have no clue how I’m meant to work them?

I have accepted the friend requests, But, Their not replying to emails or anything, So am I going wrong somewhere?

I thought about this and suggested it to my previous ASM. At the time there were few reps in the village (and even now someone's quit, and another 2 have signed up that I know of so it's hardly saturated) so I think that's why she was keen for me to keep them. She understood it was a pain for me to do, which is why she said twice a year was fine to RC.

For health/practical reasons I can't do any streets outside the village. Fortunately it's a big village so even with new sign-ups recently I should be able to get some new streets. I think in the new year I'll look at what I've got, see which are the worst streets, and ask to swap some. Apparently the new year is a good time to get new streets because lots of reps who signed up before Christmas quit around this time.

Back when I spoke to the ASM about this I had a street I would have given up, but it had several customers of another rep on it. When the rep quit I went straight to them and it's now a good street so I know for next time not to drop any streets that have some Avon interest (even if the interest isn't with me :D ).

Lots of reps on Connects report getting no response at all from people who linked to them. Go to "my orders" then "my customers" on the e-suite, and this should give you all the details they provided. If they're not responding to any of these contacts you've done everything you can.

I have have 8 streets that were allocated to me .
Streets 1,2,3,4 I have canvassed each time and had customers from them all, the other 5,6,7,8 streets are the streets where "Irene" already owned. I emailed my sl on day 3 of being a rep and she emailed the asm with my requests and complaint about getting already used streets. I got a reply from the asm saying that there are no more streets to allocate that was it. Nothing else in the email , It was very abrupt . Since then I have had no more info or contact from them .

It disheartens me when I read about how nice some of you are. And how little help I have had.

I was allocated 125 house and with the 4 streets that I have 'lost' I am doing to about 75 houses. I do have a good f&f base. However I want to gain more streets .

Can anyone check of more streets near me are available , as I have 4 gateways of a housing estate that is made up of 10 streets. The postcode of my house is OL7 9QL

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP, ? Xxx:D:money:

    Hello Ladies,

I can tell you that being released from one team to go onto another is virtually impossible - I tried and tried and all I got was abrupt responses that the territory is being allocated by the address you live at and it is what it is. My ASM never responded to the problems I had at one of my streets where people reported 2 different reps so I abandoned that street altogether. When I called the area manager for where I wanted to be a rep I got a similar response - as far as she knows it can't be done. Then (probably to ensure I would not take this area anyway) she canvassed all around where I wanted to be with perfume samples, catalogues and the message she was looking for reps in that area!

I was thinking of having a party but I myself don't use make up so would have to buy a load of stuff - can I return them after the party? Has anyone done anything like that?
And if I order from sale part of HT can I return at all?

No orders from the nursery and children centre :-( a crappy month:-(

Did she sign you up for the website? When you login you have dates of orders and deliveries all listed under 'My orders' - look at the black line at the top which gives you access to different areas.

If not you'll have to contact her or phone fast track I assume

As Mt1 says, your order and delivery dates are on your website. Assume your SL did give you your a/c no. and help you register/log in on your website when you were signed up?

Your website is slightly different to mine but it's in the drop down box in your second heading from the left ('my orders'?).

If you have not yet got your a/c no. then you have not been appointed correctly. (It does happen! ) If you need more help, repost with details of your postcode and I'll give you your order/delivery dates.
