Just found out today (duh baby brain) that I may be able to have a small earning exemption cert cos I earn less than £5,075 a tax year! which would mean not having to pay class 2 NIC. I got a request for £65 the other day :O due to be paid in Jan and when I investigated further I found this out. Does this also mean I may be able to be reimburshed for the £30 I paid at the beginning of the year?
    Has anyone else done this?

No idea about being reimbursed - but when I registered they told me about filling in that form to claim exemption - as I work full time I already paid NI through my wages, as I won't earn that much on my avon theres no point me paying twice.

You could apply to be exempted - but - it could be worth you paying NI in order to mean that you are able to claim for certain things, whereas if you didn't pay NI you wouldn't be able to. Obviously depends upon your circumstances but might be worth looking into more before you just stop paying it entirely.

  • Well i recorded my miles yesterday when delivering my orders and i was shocked i do alot more than i thought!! I'm now going to save any petrol recipt, mot recipts, tax recipts and any stationary recipts. Think thats all and i have bought a little book that i'm going to write down my expenses. Will i have to write a breakdown e.g 28/10/2011 - delivering orders - 5 miles? Think i'm all sorted. I'll be earning less than 6k a year inc my part time job so will claim a tax exepmtion thingie thank u! :)
  • Hi all AVON BUDDIES!
I am in my 3rd campaign . I have just canvassed a rd that was only list and haven't got to yet and received a phone call from a lady saying it was her street!
We has a discussion and I apologised but I was given it on a list. But it's the street live on and have done for 2years. I've NEVER has an Avon book posted. She told me on the phone that that she had canvassed this street only a few months ago, and she doesn't get many orders.
When I went to collect my 50 books back , I only had 11 left out ,couldn't knock as had dd in pram with my ,but out of the 11 books there was 1 order ( only £5.98) but too notes saying they don't want books every campaign , maybe every few months.
    WHAT DO I DO.
She is saying she has done here but customers are responding to me. ?!
    I'm confused ?

Am a little confused by the tax thing!
If I compile a list like you and fill in a form at the end of year, this is my only job and my ni contributions are protected by me having a child under 16. So would I get money back at the end of the year. ? If not I don't understand why imwould fill it I. I'm only on my 3rd campaign and so far have had two reasonable months. Are my earning my commission on it's own or is it all my orders value?

    I'm easily confused!

No matter how much money you earn, or even if you make a loss, you need to register as self-employed. Then once a year you fill out a tax return. They'll ask for the following figures:

    - Your turnover - this is the total amount of money you take in from customers. Plus any credits you receive from Avon.

    - Your expenses - they'll ask for one figure. This is the total amount of money you spend on things to run your business.

The online form works out your taxable income for you.

HMRC runs workshops local to you to help you do your accounts. Ring up the number on the first page of this thread to register as self-employed and at the same time ask about a workshop.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

The rep who says the street you live on is her street may only canvas by knocking on doors. This could explain why you've never had a book posted. Have you moved in recently? The previous owners may have said "no more books" and the rep hasn't noticed someone new has moved in.

Speak to your upline and ask them to sort out who should be canvassing what road.

  • I have lived in my house just over 2 years and she said she dropped at the houses "only a few months ago" even at mu house but she got no reply!

As for the up liner she is as much use a chocolate teapot! I have emailed her loads and had a reply once saying she will email the ask as I have had the mix up on streets in my first campaign , it was the same woman then as it is now!

I got an email off the ams once , only after I emailed Avon itself and my asm just that there is no more territoryni can have?

Should I sign my hubby up so we can get some more territory?

Keep the customers you got, and anyone who said they might like a book every few months - deliver to them in future to. Sounds like this other rep is a bit rubbish being as you haven't had a book.

Ask you asm again about more territory. If she says no, enquire if your husband joined if he could have some territory. It might that there is nothing free in the area, usually if you've got less than 200 houses, once you've done a few campaigns and have proven you are doing well then you can have a few more streets, depending on what is available, but it is at the discretion of the asm - but usually if you're doing well they're happy to give out a few more streets, but territory is usually less than say 350 (as a rough guide) from my experience, but it does depend upon the area & the manager.

Pretty pleased, DH took a load of expired brochures to some of our territory the other day (only about 60 books), and have had 2 requests for brochures from houses that have never ordered. Just shows that after nearly 3 years, you can stil get new customers from your territory, one of the used to order from her neighbour who was a rep but they have stopped. Books to be collected Tuesday so will see what sort of order (if any) I get, but pleased as it's a chance of 2 new customers in time for Christmas :)

  • Well done. Pleased for you lozza. Am always reading about ways to get more customers so I'm glad to see this really works. What note did you place on front to explain they weren't the current prices. ??

    Well done again :-)
