Still haven't heard anything back. How long does it usually take for someone to contact you after you've signed up online?

If I remember rightly, all the things you mention are to do with Capital Allowances. These are bigger expenses, and someone on Connects put it well when she said: if I buy something and it's going to last longer than a tax year I class it as a capital expense, and if I'm going to have to buy a new one before then it's a normal expense. She said she went through mobile phones really quickly so she put them as a normal expense, although for many of us a mobile (bought outright, not on contract) would last for longer than a year.

You can ring HMRC when you've got those sections on screen and they'll explain what to do.

I didn't have any Capital Expenses for my Avon.

Ah right thanks. Don't think I have any capital expenses either...

    doesn't apply to you hun

What is the Annual Investment Allowance (AIA)?

The AIA is effectively a 100% first-year allowance for business expenditure on almost all plant or machinery (apart from cars) capped at £50,000 a year. It is available to businesses regardless or their size or legal form, and applies to expenditure incurred on or after 1 April 2008 (for CT purposes) or 6 April 2008 (for IT purposes).

Allowance for small balance of unrelieved expenditure

Allowance for small balance of unrelieved expenditure
If the balance of the 'main pool' or 'special rate pool' after claiming Annual Investment Allowance, together with any balance carried forward from any previous year, less any amount you got from disposing of the equipment you no longer use, is £1,000 or less, you may claim that whole amount or part of it as a 'small pools allowance' instead of the 20 per cent or 10 per cent writing down allowance. Enter the amount of this allowance in this field.

    Capital Allowances

    Capital allowances
Tax allowances called ‘capital allowances’ can be claimed for some types of capital expenditure. Like other expenses, these are deducted in working out taxable rental business profits or added to any loss.

    Total Balancing Charges

When you sell an item that you have claimed capital allowances on, deduct the amount you received for it (the sale proceeds) from the pool value brought forward or cost. Likewise, if you no longer use an item for business purposes, deduct the value of it from the pool value or cost. If the sale proceeds or the value of the item is more than the pool value or cost, the difference is called a 'balancing charge' and is taxable. Enter the total of any balancing charges.

none of it applies to your Avon business hun.

Thank you so much for that Aesop. If none of it applies then what bits do?

  • Hello all :) I was an Avon rep several years back before I left for uni. I have been living in England for the last 8 years and have just moved back to good old N.Ire and finding it hard to get a job so hello again Avon! I have a lady coming around on Monday to get me signed up again. Quite looking forward to it.

Now I know when my mum took over from me (and added more to her territory) she would sell about £400 - £500 per campaign. However, I am quite litterally willing to treat this as almost a full time job until I find work and I am wondering if anyone else does this and actually makes a good living out of Avon? I mean yes a few hundred pounds commission is lovely to have as an extra when working, but im hoping if I pull my finger out after a few campaigns it would be possible to make £700 - £800 a month? Am I being crazy thinking this or does anyone do it already?

Also silly question, now I know some places have markets with a stall selling Avon and I am looking into the possibility of doing this - but I'm wondering, do Avon mind if you sell stock through a stall?

    thanks :)

not sure if helps really by my sl told me she knows a few avon ladies that stock up on offers and sell reguarly at cas boots, even telling me she was going to try and sayin i should if i want to. shay she has know them to mack around £200 per sale on occasion.

i have a problem now lol

when i was out doing my books yesterday (try to finish of my street, before i start the new one given to me) i only had 3 books left but about 20 houses, so i seen a group of ladies and gents standing in a garden so thought i would ask them first before going to doors. one of the ladies told me she was a avon rep, who started about 4 months ago, and was givin about 6 streets, 3 of which i was told to do, i was told to start my mums street as not had a book in years, start across from me as not hade in years and then on thur after my sl meet with her boss was givin a another. i started half my muns street as i know of a lady who does freind and family that stays at top of street (kind split in 2) so assumed she would have at least asked around her. i then did street across from me. no one had mentioned a rep.
this lady (diffrent from the one i had known about) said she has ma mum street, and a few others and was going to do the street i just did. today, i told her i was sorry and was givin these streets. i was going to do ma new street today (but she says is hers) so i told her i would leave it till we see what the sl's say. (was going to start a week early on book 17 so few days delay shouldnt mater). if i am honest i am not fussed about the new street as its about 10 mins away and has a load of houses. i would rather keep street across from me. as got about 20 orders, and i know most of the people.
scince she hasnt started on that.

Do you think i will get to keep it?

the street is mostly council houses with a scheme at the end of all boiught houses (where i think lady stays) i have done all the council ones but would happliy leave here the bought ones as are here neighbourghs,

    sorry for long post

    Eighth Anniversary
Good evening everyone! I am new to Avon, C15 was my first campaign and I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could help me with.

When my delivery arrived I put together all my customer's orders to deliver, and left the rest for later. Well I was sorting through all the samples, stationary and bags, and there are 2 full-size bottles of Incandessence, which neither my customers or myself ordered and they don't show up anywhere on my invoice.

Is it normal for Avon to send things like that, and what do I need to do if anything?

Don't worry about it. Happens occasionally. Things also go missing from your order on occasion. If you want to return them, send them back. :)
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???
  • Hey just had a customer asking about the skin so soft range and its use as a bug repellant- she was wondering if it was any of the range or a specific one.

Can any of you help me please?

It's the soft & fresh one (used to be Woodland fresh years ago).
Anecdotally it works well (I've heard the SAS and road gangs use it) but it hasn't been through the expensive clinical trials which is why they can't legally label it as a bug repellant.
