I finally passed my driving test and am still considering joining Avon, but my OH is worried I might actually lose money.... I do work full time also and would definitely have to pay tax on profits so it'd be extra work. Any reassurance/advice/tips to ensure that wouldn't happen?

I was planning on taking books to work (no reps there yet), my mom sometimes buys Avon, my best friend says she'd buy from me (but she often doesn't have that much money), I would ask for streets I don't currently get Avon through door but there's loads of reps within 0.5miles of where I live according to the Avon website so it might be that this area isn't good for finding customers. I'm also a bit shy for knocking on doors and terrified of dogs. I realise nobody can guarantee anything.

Sorry if this is similar to what I posted last time I can't remember what I said before and now I've got nothing holding me back except fear of losing money. If I made the odd £30 profit some campaigns (not every campaign, I'm realistic) and no losses that'd be fab, is that reasonable if the area isn't much good (it might be better than I think I won't know till I try...)?

In the worst case scenario say I buy 20 books (is that probably typical for someone starting out? 4-5ish would be work, friends + family and wouldn't need bags) and bags and don't make any profit on orders, how much would I stand to lose a campaign?

    Hello :)
Thing to remember you are taxed on earnings... books, bags, sale aids come out of this before hand.
If you wanted me to check if there are streets near you if you private message me your post code I'm happy to look up your post code on our mapping system for you. It may say there are lots not too far away but they could be Friends and Family reps or like me and travel to their streets (my streets are 12 miles from me).

I hate knocking doors, I'm a post books and run person... lol.
For your first 2 campaigns you get your books free from the person who signs you up (I advise not applying through the website (which is sadly what I did not knowing how it works :( and finding a Sales Leader, I'm happy to help find someone near you through our Sales leader facebook page).

we earn 20% on orders over £85 - Minimum order value
and 25% on orders over £155 - Higher order value.
On average a customer will spend £10, and then 20 books are £5.50 but these do count towards your order value. So £85 could easily be 8 customers + 20 books. (or less!)
We get a online brochure that we can share on facebook/email whatever. Big thing is just making sure everyone you know knows you do avon...
A campaign is usually 3 weeks, we ave 2 2 week ones a year. I was signed up with 4days! but got orders of £95 from Friends and family... one of my reps only sells to friends and family doesn't want streets, has only started in September, and has out sold me every single campaign ... its very annoying!! haha.

To be honest. If you are going to use Avon and spend over £15 a month, you might as well become a rep, a single book is 75p, and free delivery on orders over £15. + access to the demo book so get things at discount prices.

Sorry if I've dropped into acronyms (is that what they are called :/) anywhere in this I had to keep going back and correcting myself. too much time on Avon facebook pages haha!

Thanks a lot. Sounds like even if I really didn't sell there isn't much to lose, which is what I wanted to confirm just in case!
Haven't bought Avon in ages but I think I would have done if I was getting the brochures so I probably will buy some bits for myself, will try not to go overboard though!

    Don't worry I don't think there's anything I don't understand from your post.

PM'd you abut the streets hope you don't mind.

  • Hi, I was told when I signed up I was a personal shopper as I only order for myself and a couple of family members I have no interest in building on that really. I cant find any info anywhere on being a personal shopper so I was wondering do I have to register as self employed.

There is no official "personal shopper" thing... It's just what people who just places small personal orders is called, in the eyes of the tax man, and Avon you are just another self employed Avon rep, you just happen not to have big sales. I hope that makes sense x

  • How long does it normally take for someone from Avon to get back to you once you have applied on their website?

did you apply directly on the Avon website? If so an area manager should be in contact within a couple of days, they are employed directly by Avon.
If direct to a sales leader website they should be in contact asap but there is less of a timescale on it, we try and get in within a couple of days or leads can apparently be passed on to our area managers.

I recommend a sales leader over if possible asm based on my personal experiences.

Where abouts are you located? Would you like me to find a sales leader near you and put you in touch with them?
