Advertising where people have to contact you only really brings out people who are prepared to make the first move to contact you and already know they want Avon (and sadly even these people can turn out to be time-wasters). It's worth a try, especially if it's free, but be careful how far you're travelling if the advert brings in people from further afield. It may not sound like much, but even going a few miles down the road can be really inefficient if you're delivering an order that only makes you a pound or two net profit. You can turn down people that are too far away.

It can very easily go the other way too and bring out the people who really like Avon, they are the ones more likely to make the first move I think. I just picked up a customer who saw my advert, her rep had left a few months ago. Her first order £60! She stocked up on foundation incase I left too lol. Second £30.
That said my advert has been there since Sept and she's the first one to contact me.... which actually is another point, watch how much it costs you to advertise!! You could wind up losing more money in putting it there.... 2 shops near me one £1 a week! I said forget it! The other just asks for a donation to charity so I just keep that one up, and pop a bit more in the tin when I go in. Gets rid of all the little bits of change out of my avon purse too.

  • Hi all i am new and was wondering if i could get some advice. Sorry if i am asking things which have been answered, not had time to read the whole thread.

What happens with declaring for tax etc? I wouldnt actually earn enough to pay tax, but we are claiming tax credits so i know it needs to be included on here.

Does anybody know if you still end up earning from doing this and what afect it will have? my OH earns about 15k a year and have 1 child. I dont want to run the risk of getting caught by not declaring however obviously dont want to waste my time doing avon if im not going to earn from it.

As an example say i get about £60 profit per campaign - expenses.

Sorry if this is long winded or doesnt make sense.

    Thank You
    Leanne :)
  • Hiya Avon experts

I'm thinking about christmas all of a sudden!

I want to make up some postcards or leaflets offering my customers the chance to host their own avon christmas parties but I'm struggling with the wording totally...help?

Also what month/campaign is best for christmas stuff? November or October? Both?

Some I out would be amazing

    Thanks

Christmas items start to appear in C16, but C17, C18 and C1 are the main Christmas campaigns. I'm mailplan A so my C1 delivers mid-December. People on the last few mailplans are looking at C1 delivery just a few days before Christmas so some of them choose not to do C1 or to strongly encourage customers to order Christmas items from C17 or C18 in case of stock problems.

It's hard to predict which Christmas campaign will be the strongest. I've done 4 Christmases now and have had C1 be the best campaign one year, C18 for 2 of those years, and then a staggering C17 last year.

To play it safe I'd have people scheduling parties that will have goods ordered in C18. That way, if anything is out of stock it has another chance to arrive before Christmas with your C1 delivery.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.
  • Can someone please clarify if im able to sell avon out of area?

I understand im not allowed to canvas brochures outside my allotted streets etc but i was thinking more of online. A lot of people mention personal websites and the ebrochure but im confused lol.

Can i sell online just in my area or can i go further afield? for example i live in leeds but some family live in plymouth and they have said they will order online and pass to uni friends and their families. How would this work?

    Thanks
    Mel

  • mlr1984 Hello :)
Your completely right on the canvassing. But if someone asks you for a brochure, or it's friends or family, or just someone you stopped in the street, you can sell to them :). You just can't approach and drop books to a street. I have adverts up in local shops and thinking of putting one in the parish paper.

Your ebrochure/ personal website, is your POB Personal Online Brochure, you can find your link to yours on the avon website once you've signed in, (it's in the same drop down option as place an order/make a payment ).

You can sell anywhere online, ebay, some sell on amazon (...never done it know nothing about it...), facebook though facebook are having a big cut down about people running businesses on personal accounts at the moment and closing them down if people have set up ones just for Avon, don't totally understand it but I know people are having problems if they have been advertising on their account even so maybe avoid that one for the time being.
BUT! the order will be delivered to you, so you have sort postage or delivery yourself... And postage restrictions could make that rather expensive business (for example can only send 4 perfumes in one parcel...).

I hope that makes sense, I have a bit of a sore head today... lol. x

Whilst some people do,and even sell it for less then they paid for it in some cases, which doesnt help existing reps of course. I think your find if you check with your team leader / manager that representatives are not permitted to sell Avon products from their own private websites or through outlets like Amazon or eBay.Unless things have changed recently.:D

You can definitely sell from ebay, and Amazon (not sure if private websites are allowed or not, not seen anything about them so wouldn't like to comment) but it's no recent change. Of course Avon would rather we didn't but reps are self employed, once the rep has bought and paid for them, Avon's influence on the business ends. A lot of the top sellers in the country got there by selling on ebay, and some reps in fact only sell on ebay.... though how they feasibly do that I've not a clue!

It seems the reason behind people thinking you can't comes from US, who do have different rules to the UK... this is from connects
"We are aware that some of our Representatives sell Avon products on market stalls, at car boot sales and on eBay. We would, of course, prefer them to sell through our traditional selling channels e.g. door to door or to family and friends. However, due to the self-employed status of a Representative, we are unable to direct them as to how to conduct their business.
We appreciate that the activities of these Representatives may be upsetting to other Representatives in their locality, but legally we cannot prevent them selling this way.
    Thanks"

  • <sneaking back in after a lot of time away!>

Just come back to Avon. 1st Campaign about to go in. It's good to be back, but feeling a little unsettled until I get back in to the swing of things. Does anyone have a link for C14 please incase back ordering will help my 1st order?
Things have changed in the 15 months or so since I finished, so if anyone has any helpful info, I will be very grateful. I understand it's now 28 days on returns, and order values have increased a bit.

I have read back a little way, and recognise a few people. Nice to see you are still around :)
Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???
