though facebook are having a big cut down about people running businesses on personal accounts at the moment and closing them down if people have set up ones just for Avon, don't totally understand it but I know people are having problems if they have been advertising on their account

I hope this clears up the Facebook issue:

Everyone on Facebook must have a personal profile that represents them as an individual. It's on these profiles that Facebook don't want people to advertise their businesses. They also don't want people to set up profiles saying their name is "Sally Avon Manchester Baker" ;)

Once you have a profile you can set up a page. Pages were designed by Facebook to be used by brands, businesses, or famous people. It's still 100% okay to use a page to advertise your Avon business. :) Although you do need to stick to Avon's guidelines about using the word "avon" in the url, copyrighted images etc...

Reps can sell online but our profit margins are low and that makes it difficult. Reps I know who sell on eBay in large enough quantities to make it worthwhile have business accounts with Royal Mail or another provider, spend money upfront on a lot of stock (which they don't return if unsold because they buy in what will sell), one rep I know sells lots of other things that aren't Avon that will have better profit margins (helping things to balance out) so Avon is just a part of her online shop, and they pay monthly shop fees to eBay that work out cheaper but only if you do lots of listings.

I only sell items on eBay that I got for free and that didn't get any interest on my round. Ebay is the last resort. Even then I only sell single items if I can make some profit. Sometimes I can't and it's better to do a job-lot.

You can promote your e-brochure online using Facebook (a page, not a profile) but you'd have to sort out an online payment process and delivery (does the customer pay or do you absorb the cost?). Our small profit margins can make absorbing the cost impossible, but if the customer likes toiletries they're not going to be too happy with a £10+ postage cost either. The e-brochure could be useful for people you can deliver to, but can't spend the time and petrol dropping a brochure to every campaign. As others have said, there are restrictions on how much of any nail polish, aerosol, perfume etc... you can send in one package using RM.

I also have family spread out (some in Plymouth as well) so I post or email a brochure in time for when we're next seeing each other. They can't see every brochure but if they're organised they can stock up until you next meet. It's a nice boost to your order even if it's not little orders every campaign.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.
  • Just want to say a big Hello. I'm a newbie to Avon, signed up Friday just gone. Got 165 houses altogether and managed to get all 20 books out on Sunday to pick up tomorrow. I was pleasantly surprise to have a text from one lady a few hours after delivering my books to say she has an order ready for me. Hopefully it will just go from strength to strength.

Also, hopefully this thread is still active as No one has posted for a while

How do they stand on testing on Animals ?

The first part I'm going to say probably not, as they don't advertise it, if they do and they still don't advertise it they are idiots... but that sounds about right for Avon. I keep emailing suggesting SLS free shampoo... no sign of it yet though :(

Animal testing is a little more complicated to answer.
Avon do not test on animals for the UK market, or for most countries they sell in. However certain countries, China (and I'm sure there is another that I can never remember) require by law that certain products are tested on animals before being sold to the public. Avon do sell in China so in China some Avon products are tested on animals purely for the Chinese market.
Worth keeping in mind Avon products differ from country to country, so the chances of the items we sell her having been tested on animals for a different market are slim.
Also worth thinking about is that Avon don't withdraw from the Chinese market because they want to try and change this.
Less than 0.3% of all of Avons products do go for further testing in countries like China by their health authority or government.

This doesn't just apply to Avon, this applies to any brand that sells in these countries.

I hope that makes sense. For the full information here is Avon's FAQ page - http://www.avon.uk.com/PRSuite/animal_welfare_statement.page

    Hi All,

I'm a newbie to Avon and was signed up last night by a lovely lady. I've already delivered 20 brochures on my Street and sent some in with my husband to work. I live on a very new estate and nobody does Avon so I'm hopeful to get a few regular clients. I work part time and have a toddler and Avon seemed a good fit for me, especially as I do use a lot of their products and I am a bit of a beauty product addict!

Hopefully there will be posters about if I need to ask any questions!

Can somebody advise me on returning products? One of my friends wants a new lipstick colour, if I order it and she doesn't like it, can it be returned?

    Many thanks.

    Hi, welcome :)
There is a 28 day returns policy, the only restrictions are earrings must be in their unopened plastic bags, and underwear can't be returned, so same as high street really. But anything else can be returned including make up, even if it has been opened and used :)

The person who signed you up should go through your first returns with you.

As a fellow beauty addict, a little tip write out what your ordering for yourself on an order form as if you were a customer, it's far too easy to spend all your commission without realising! lol
