Hello All, it's been a while! I'm still hanging in with Avon at the moment :D
If any of you have your own website, would you please give me some advice / info about where you got your domain name and hosting (and the costs involved) ? Very grateful for all help :A

  • Hellooo,

    A quick question, please:

If I'm really close to reaching my £142 order total, is is ok to order something to make it up to that and then return it next time?

    Thanks!

    Websites

If you need one just for your POB - all you'll need to pay for is the domain name (£10 or less for 2 years). Once this is set up you go to your domain provider, log into your account, and set it up to re-direct to your very long POB url. So when people type in https://www.mypob.co.uk it'll jump straight to your POB url.

If you want to create a website
    - you could get a free site from Blogger or Wordpress. These aren't just for blogging and can be designed to look like a normal website. You could put a links bar along the top and/or side with a clear link to your POB.
    - option 2 is to buy a domain and hosting. Hosting means you can upload your files (your site). You could include a link to your pob as part of your site. You'd need to design the site yourself by writing it, using software, or installing Wordpress.

I use 123-reg for a couple of non-Avon websites I run and while it does the job I find the renewal process a bit funny. For example they charged me for a renewal of a site using my PayPal account, which is linked to e-mail address #1. The thing is, the address on my 123-reg account was address #2 - so how did they have my PayPal e-mail details? They took it out like a direct debit, which I didn't think could happen with PP. I've been caught out by things renewing, even though I could have sworn I'd set them to not renew. My details also didn't update for a long time and several attempts after moving house.

It doesn't have a good reputation for compatibility with Wordpress. I installed it on my husband's site and it was so painfully slow I had to go back to using Dreamweaver to make the site instead.

I think there's a thread on Connects with people discussing who've they've used, although it's early days to say whether their auto-renew setup catches people out.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Yes. :j You could order things at their cheapest (£2.50 1 litre bubble bath) that you also know will sell eventually. I keep hold of things for 6 campaigns before returning them, but they often sell in the meantime.

Hi mm, good to see you 'back'. Am a novice too but have just bought a domain name from 123-reg which someone recommended on Avon Connects. See IG is the expert on this but just to add to her excellent post, if all you want to do is refer it back to your Avon website/page i.e. rather than go the whole hog and set up an independent website, then you don't need to pay for hosting. I paid £12.56 for three years but you can just buy a name for one year if you prefer starting from £2.99 I think.

For all SLs out there..... My domain name links to my PRP (Personal Recruiting Page) but went to a meeting last week where Gail Reynolds told us that you can then get an 'extension' i.e. /POB to link to your POB so no need to pay extra. I need to get on and sort that but most of my customers are 'old dears', who deffo still prefer a book. :rotfl:

Good opportunity to test this out..... (+ if anyone wants 'to put the face to the name') www.avochris.co.uk should take you to my PRP. If it doesn't PLEASE let me know! Thx.

Go to 'My Profile' on your webpage and update your details there. Some you can do yourself, others you have to submit and wait for Avon to update.

Early Ordering Opportunities: Am I the only one that wishes that any order you place via the preview email should arrive at least one campaign early to give you the opportunity to show customers items etc?
Have just done a C17 order, and would love to receive the items with C15 or C16. Seems a bit pointless otherwise for us as reps / SLs.

    Anyone else have related views?

Missminx - they've given me the op to order 17 too, got to admit I was looking from a purely selfish "ooooh so and so can have that for Christmas" reason but yes it would make MUCH more sense were they to send it the campaign before because then you could do a Christmas type party for Customers to see what they were like.

Marsden - link worked fine for me and got to admit in my head you don't look like that! You're at least 10 years older in my grey matter than you actually are, unless you are that age and its just the Anew keeping you fresh! :rotfl:
