Hi Ruth.I found that it was difficult for me personally to get a team together-I thought I'd be able to convince family and friends to join me as reps easily but didnt manage to get 1 person I knew to join me.I went canvassing with 2 of my upliners and really hated it.I'm good with people once I know them but am not someone that finds it easy trying to convince strangers to join me.I also found there was a lot of pressure on me to maintain set levels of sales.January has been my most difficult month for sales and members of my team didn't pay Avon the money owed from the last Christmas order which put a dampener on things for me.I think if you could get 5 plus people that you know to start as a rep then you could be off to a good start.
There are lots of bonuses to be made if you can maintain your team sales and keep adding to your team.
I hope this helps.Good luck to you if you do decide to become a Sales leader I think its something I'd have found easier to do in a few years time once my children are older and all at school fulltime.(Mine are currently 1,2,4,9 and 12 years old)

WOW, can't begin to think how you even cope with five children and being a rep let alone being a SL. :T Hang in there doing whatever bits of Avon you enjoy and just leave the rest.

Maybe further down the line when you have less pressures at home you may want to branch out and start to turn Avon into a career for yourself instead of just a side-line. That's one of the benefits of Avon, it fits easily into whatever you want it to be; don't feel pressured in any way by your Avon business - you should be in control, not the other way round.

Well done you though for even considering it at this stage. If the ones you have left on your team are good, solid reps it may be worth asking your upliner for their help. (It's in their own best interests to help keep you qualified too. ;) )

Avon's current bonus system rewards recruiting rather than retaining reps so it's no wonder some SLs just want the sign-ups (and not long-term reps). However some SLs don't seem to get the concept of building a strong team that will bring in more earnings in the long-term. Even before the latest bonuses were introduced there were "sign-up and run" SLs, which doesn't make sense as a way to work because those reps are far more likely to leave (or not want to go into SL-ship) and ultimately the SL loses out.

Have heard about SLs, who will sign up 'anything that walks and talks' but never 'sign-up and run' SLs. ASMs tend to have a different target system based on LOA1s but, personally, I would've thought every SL's ultimate aim would be for all their recruits to become long term team members - wonder if it's just different in your part of the country?

As for Avon's bonus scheme only encouraging recruiting rather than retaining, don't forget we have the SmartStart scheme, rewarding not only reps based on their order values in their first six campaigns but also the SuperStar bonus (£25), which SLs get if their team members win/earn a free Demo bag for £1,500 worth of sales in those campaigns. Doesn't that encourage a certain amount of longevity? Avon do reckon that once a rep has done six campaigns they are likely to stay on long term so maybe they reckon they've done their bit by then.

Personally, I haven't heard a word from my SL (she's quite a high flier from what I gather), since I said quite firmly after my 3rd campaign that I wasn't interested in being a SL. I'm quite self sufficient & find enough support on this thread, but I wouldn't have thought that a mass email (maybe including some helpful tips & info) to all her team once a month was too much to ask for.

Not the first time I've heard that, Mt2. Just go at your own pace; sounds to me like your SL should be lucky to have you on her team.

Excellent suggestion too - why not email your SL and see what they say? If your SL is a high flier, they must have loads of tips. (Don't forget to share them with us all on here too! :rotfl:)

On Connects there are regular posts from people who say their SL (and we confirm it was definitely a SL, not an ASM) has provided no support past the sign-up. Not been shown how to input orders or anything else. Of course there are reports of ASMs doing that as well. It makes no sense I know, but apparently there are SLs out there who are okay with building their teams on shaky foundations. I agree there's more of a reason/explanation for ASMs being the ones to sign up and run, although my experience of signing up under an ASM was a good one.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.

Yes, I've seen lots of those too; wouldn't it be great if as part of the SmartStart scheme new reps 'graded' their upliner to give feedback to Avon? Can't see it happening (although maybe I should suggest it on AC). The biggest pity to me though is that those newbies are 'tagged' to whoever signs them up for 6 months whether they get any support or not - even if they resign within that period and find a good, supportive upliner they'd still go back onto their original 'team'.

Glad you have a good experience of being tagged direct to your ASM; the 'knack' is to keep in close contact with your ASM if you can and then they're worth their weight in gold! :T

Well C3 was worse than C2 for us, got about £350 ish I think altogether, hopefully now I'm out of the short campaigns it'll get back to normal. Managed to bring books into work as well which I've not done since before Christmas so hopefully they might be keen to order lots :p

  • I got my first campaign delivered today.
I hit the HOV, just about, which was pleasing. Though, I have 1 item missing, and 2 damaged boxes!!!
It was nice that I got the smart start free gifts, A full size clinical eye cream, and a full size genics (though Im 26 I shant be using either), but fingers crossed I can sell them on at some stage.

I've read on here the last couple of days a lot of negativity about signing up SL's too fast, and I couldn't agree more!
My upline is also apparently quite a high flier, and though when she signed me up she did offer to make an appt to help me do my first order online, I was a bit miffed not to get a "brill you hit HOV in your first campaign well done" sort of email, would have taken 2mins from her blackberry.
And then amongst all of the paperwork in my order box, a leaflet about sales leadership!!!!!
I shall be using it to line the Chinchilla cage, so it's not totally wasted :)

How ridiculous, after one campaign to start pushing being a SL, how about training that reps should get from Avon as well as upline. I know it's up to my upline to train me, but I shouldn't have to be reliant on forums such as this, and connects for the best information.

I shall continue as a rep for as long as I enjoy Avon, but especially as they seem to be pushing it from day one, I will be making it quite clear SL is not for me.
  • Well done, RD :T and yes, what a good idea it would be for upliners to send a little congratulatory note but generally until we get our SL Report 2-3 weeks later we don't know for sure what our individual team member's orders are and by then it's a bit late i.e. 'the shine' has gone off the achievement.

It is possible to check each rep's account manually though so thanks for the tip; will see about following that one up. ;)

As for the SL invite in your first order, see your point but maybe this is only put in reps' orders when they achieve HOV in C1? Really don't know but 'information is power and all that' - can't see that being sent details re. SLship is any different to all the other legal mumbo jumbo/guides/T&Cs. Avon provide everything you need to run your own business and SLship is just another way to expand on that opportunity as/when/if reps choose to go that route. Like you, I didn't think SLship was for me either (come to that if it had mentioned Avon in the advert, chances are I would never have replied! :rotfl:) Things change though; the knack is to fit Avon into your life, not the other way round.
