I can't imagine they'd be much different to 'discreet' and 'mini' ones really, I agree another gimmick to sell more products...

I think (I know at my school all 10 years ago lol) Tampax were seen as more 'grown up' and 'sophisticated' and a lot of girls had them to show off. I note those were the 'in' crowd which is unlikely to include any of mine in the future :o

I'd just rather they knew the risks, and that they can be uncomfortable, and not just think about being 'cool' or that someone can see the pad, nowadays they are very thin.

If someone can see the pad you're wearing then your clohes are too tight. lol. Now I sound like an old prude :o

You could see my pad through my school skirt very easily owing to the fact is was the size of a bloomin chihuahua lol! My mother, bless her, was an older Mum and still longed for the days of sanitary belts. Every one of my friends wore them and got on with their periods where I seemed to find myself in and out of the school loo's every lesson just to check (I was THAT paranoid).

It was completely a generational thing with her I suppose.

My DD has used tampax from about her 5th period, she leads a very active lifestyle and found pads didn't suit! I would NEVER discourage any of my daughters from using them provided they knew always to change them regularly, and make sure they've been removed! She does wear night time pads as her flow is VERY heavy! Thise 'teen towels' would never be enough for her :(

I have to say despite my acceptance of tampons I have always asked that DD wear a pad overnight simply because she can sleep for 12+ hours on a weekend and I feel anything over 4 or 5 hours is too long without changing.

I had a book that featured sanitary belts... It was a story book 'with a message'... God knows where that came from, maybe from a car boot sale cos I did think why would you want one of those when there are sticky ones that go in your pants :rotfl: took me a while to realise it was an old story.

Fortunately they are very good now, I have the impression that the old ones were like maternity ones... Ie like some cotton wool shoved in an old pair of tights :o

Even the massive always night ones I sometimes need to use can't be seen through clothes now.
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession :o:o

I remember them well. It was very different to now, they were huge and although absorbent had no waterproof backing so leaking was a given. I am still amazed by how much modern pads are able to hold.

I don't really like the idea of young girls using tampons but if they swim for instance they are much more practicable.

  • I remember my Mum telling me after my periods started that you really need to be married to use tampons, I was 13 and bewildered who made a law to stop unmarried women using tampons lol
Figured it out after a few months :o

Another heavy from the start one @ 9yrs old.

Faffed on with loads of press on towels as they were labelled then!

Then discovered tampons, lill lets being best for me as they only expand(sorry tmi) widthways not length. Got on fine for years, mixed both kinds, especially overnight as others have said

No I can only use towels, following quite nasty surgery & resulting scarring, now I will Only use always ( hated them too few yrs ago as they wouldn't stick! ) be it the thinones, or maxi ones, they 'fit' me, and stay put.

New design ones are much better too, almost rip a hole in your knick knacks taking them off!!!

Thankfully there are so many brands/types/choices in bothnpads & tampons even mooncups. That hopefully everyone can find what works for them! Now if only they would take the vat off them!! They aren't a luxury you know governments!!!! :-)

I started when I was 9 and my Mum wouldnt allow me to use tampons (and worryingly she was a retired nurse) as she believed wearing tampons wouldnt make you a virgin or some such rubbish.. although even when I was old enough to try them I found them too painful to wear so I stuck with towels. I've worn just about every single brand over the years but now wear Always Maxi Night, I was very heavy from the start and now I'm even more so - on bad days I wear 4 night pads at a time and have to change sonetimes every 2 hours  Oh the joys of being female
