I
this thread so much!!!
:rotfl:0 -
Unfortunately there are a number of conmen in our area who regularly ask for money for bus fare or a coffee etc,I have given but feel let down by those who are not genuine. One guy said he was hungry /thirsty outside the door of a fast food joint-I told him I would be back in minute and went to get him a sarnie and drink as I got my family's-he just disappeared but turned out to be just after cash on a regular basis(hubby got a surprise sarnie).I have, however, often given and sometimes wonder if I am a soft touch(do unto others etc)
So there I was in a car park and saw a young man asking people for money for a ticket, he was locked out and needed to get a spare key from mum-I did not have much but gave him nearly enough for his fare.To my surprise he said God bless you ,you are the only person who has helped me,and headed straight to the bus stop.
Recently my dd was in London with her friend and saw a little old man who was counting coins to buy a sandwich-he had not got enough and walked away, they were so upset, they went after him and gave him theirs. It turned out he regularly collected and sold on tins etc to raise money and was homeless, but a proud man.
He was really hungry and grateful and interesting to talk to.

What a truly uplifting thread!0

I miss my homeless friend from MK, he often sat in a bus shelter by Fox Milne, and if I could I'd buy a sandwich and take it to him. He was always glad to receive it, and we'd chat for a few minutes. I moved away in April. I truly hope some ex colleagues are looking out for him. In my leaving email, I asked people to look out for him: it's amazing how many people "didn't see him".What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0

My friend had a baby a few months ago and was quite poorly after, needing weekly physio. Two weeks after the birth, she was at the hosp when she realised she had lost her ticket. When told she would have to pay the full daily rate which was something hideous like 30 pounds, she broke down in tears. On which the man then charged her a pound...cheaper than what she would have paid for an hour. Bless him!:rotfl:0

I adore this thread. Absolutely lovely
I can think of a few lovely deeds I've received.
When I was 16 - 18 I was having a really awful time. Probably the darkest time of my life, which may sound very dramatic as I am only 22, but I have quite a checkered past. I used to be on a forum where we would swap and sell products. There was a poster on there who had my name/address from a previous swap, and she sent me a little box of pick me up goodies. Some Lush products, hot chocolate, chocolate bar etc. So kind, I have never forgotten her.
There was another forum I used at the time, and the admin on there sent me a PM asking if I would like a private area to post about stuff. I couldn't publicly say a lot because it was all going through court, but this gave me an outlet among 'friends' and people who never judged me. I had so many amazing offers of kindness from there. Again, never forgotten any of them.
A few years ago I lost my phone. Noticed quickly and my Mum was ringing and ringing and ringing it. About half an hour later, my Mum got a call. These two girls said they had heard this singing (my ringtone!) coming from under a car, peered under, and found my phone! They had then rung my Mum off it, to tell her they had found it. This was September one year and the brand spanking new iPhone (quite hard to get hold of still despite launch in that June). It was slap bang in the middle of Birmingham I had lost it! Still so shocked I got that back.
There was a purse someone left at work a couple months ago. My managers kept promising to find out who it belonged to (via head office and loyalty card linkage) as had no address in. They kept failing to do anything so I messaged someone on Facebook in my city with the same name asking if she shopped in X and had ever lost anything. It did belong to her and she was a regular, always in the store but had never realised it was in there that she lost it. Had loads of cards in it and £40 or so in cash.
I think I just have the kind of face which says ask me questions or to help if in need :rotfl: I had an elderly lady ask me how Argos works the other day. In the end I showed her how to reserve items, pay for them, where to collect etc.
A couple months ago there was a blind man asking people walking past for their help. I stopped, and he was trying to buzz into a building but didn't know what floor hence which one to press. He was so thankful, it makes me very sad that people can't expect things like that just to help one another out. Yesterday I had a nervous looking chap interject a meeting I was at outside a coffee shop. He just needed the time, but couldn't see a clock on a building anywhere and was fretting about being late. Again, so incredibly thankful, its as though he thought I might tell him to bog off0 -
When I was being sick on Monday I was at on a bench crying my eyes out and this lovely woman came to help me.

This probably isn't the right place but I've recently found out that my wonderful youngest son has been regularly donating to the local food bank (I'm on a DMP but after a prog on the BBC about food poverty we cleared out the cupboards and made some bread and took it in, we live in an apparently affluent area and it was a shock to find we had one!) since then he's regularly gone and spent some of his small part time wage on basics for the food bank, he's response at being found out was well whatever we've been through you've always made sure we were never hungry! I love my son for his maturity and random acts of kindness, whatever my failings!

Just read this thread through and it is lovely!
I have signed up to the Anthony Nolan register after reading how easy it is to save someone's life. Quite a humbling thought.
