They gave him the £2000+ we needed for me to give up my job without returning - no strings, no repayments necessary, no required service period. They did it because theirs is a family business and they value his contributions to the company.
It's left us both a bit  but very, very :j

when i went to help out at one of our other theatres ( i used to work at the bristol hippodrome but went to birmingham one year to help) the birmingham alex who needed a dresser for my favourite show, guys and dolls the hippodrome was late sending over my pay details to the birmingham alex which meant i didnt get paid for the first 2 weeks and had very little money left, anyway i had mentioned this in passing to someone and during one of the shows when i went to down to my boys dressing room to tidy up ( why are men so messy?) for the 100th time that evening i picked my fleece up off the chair and something fell out of it, i picked it up to find my 8 boys (men, but they act like boys) had each put £10 in my pocket enough for my next week rent (it was a 4 week run and i'd only known them 2 weeks), when they came down from being on stage i gave it back to them or tried to but they wouldnt have it, they then called in the 3 guys from next door dressing room who had brought me some bread, butter, beans, milk and tea bags, it wasnt a lot but its meant the world to me and 5 years on im in contact ( or have worked with some of them again) with most of them, they wouldnt take the money back so a week later ready for the xmas party i ironed all of their party outfits, they were well chuffed.
even now to think that some them have made it or were already famous they still stay in contact with me, its lovely.
now every time i see a dfs advert, game of thrones or a william hill bingo advert and see them on it makes me smile.0 -

This thread has reminded me of an occaision when I punched a Co-Worker....as an act of kindness.
This individual was one of the charge-hands, and ran one of the departments. his desk was behind mine on the edge of his section. Every morning he would walk to his desk from the doors at the end and sit down and wheeze for about 5 minutes while one of our colleagues got him a coffee. He had very bad lungs for various reasons. one morning I heard him sit, said the customary good morning and didn't get the usual grunted reply (he couldn't manage any more than that!). Then there was no wheezing.
It took me a minute to realise what was wrong, then I turned round and he was going very pale. I checked his pulse and as he was a bit large for me to place on the ground for CPR I punched him as hard as possible in the middle of his chest. Apparently I caused his heart to come out of fibulation, like an electric shockj does. It was a trick I'd been shown about 3 years before on a Battle-field Firast Aid course, which isn't taught any more.
He came round quickly and only went to hospital when 3 of us carried him to the car and took him. He had suffered a fibulation due to a clot in his aerotal artery. the punch I gave him dislodged the clot and caused the heart to fully operate, restarting it. he had 3 weeks off on full pay, and work wanted to give him more, but he came in early with the words 'I can't stand being cooped up with her for that long'
He has now stopped drinking and smoking and has lost over 50lb in weight.Personnal Ebay Challenge - If we don't use it, flog it!

Way back in the eighties, I was struggling financially, even more than i am now. I literally used to eat dry bread on some nights, but sometimes used to scrape together enough change for a small cone of chips from the local shop ( when chips were much cheaper than they are now!) One night I went in and placed my usual heap of 5p's and coppers on the counter. The lady filled up what looked like a hundredweight of chips and handed them over to me. Just as I started to tell her of her mistake, she said 'I do hope you arent going to tell me how much chips cost in my own shop'
I tried to say 'thank you' but no sound actually came out. I'll never forget eating properly for the first time that week.I do hope youre reading this. God bless you.0 -

have 2 to add.
Was in well known baby shop with my DD who must have been about 9mths old ,we were 2nd in line to pay.
There was an older Gentleman paying for his purchases, beside the till was a stand with teddies on that if you spent over a certain amount you could buy for half price-something like £9.99. he picked one up and bought it,after he had paid he turned to my Daughter and said it was for her as she was so cute! How lovely was that!
The 2nd one was in supermarket,i had a trolley of shopping,a lady with a basket came behind me I asked if she would like to go first as I was in no particular rush.
She was very pleased to go ahead. as she unloaded her basket i realised she had a few more items that I originally thought, she then proceeded to go get something she had forgotten. I had a laugh to myself thinking that would teach me for letting others jump the queue. After she had paid she turned to say thankyou for letting her go first and gave me an xmas gift box of Baileys with a glass and chocs-that was the item she went back to get! I was really amazed.
keep paying it forward everyone it's such a nice feeling! x:T:T:T0 -

Only a small thing but in Boots tonight someone had a left spare 25% off shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste coupons in the Advantage Card machine. A bit annoying as I had already used the same coupons with 10% off
. I used them for an extra stock up/Xmas stocking shop and will reciprocate
.
Marmitegirl - how lovely :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
