I had very bad depression for some years and my sister dragged me out to a Health & Beauty type exhibition/show to "cheer me up".

Over the day I felt more and more distressed and it must have shown in my face because a woman who was promoting a beauty training course sat me down and gave me a hand massage. As she was massaging she very quietly explained what each movement did, the various pressure points, nerves, techniques etc.

It was the most soothing thing anyone could have done for me. sounds dramatic but it was a life-saver.

I have some lovely neighbours and we all help each other with small things like doing a bit of weeding, bringing something back from the shops, taking cuttings of plants, lending garden tools etc. I'm the only one in our road that lives alone and everyone looks out for me (not that I need looking after but it's so nice to have people care that much).

It's amazing how having good neighbours can add to your quality of life.

A lovely man in car parts shop got down and dirty and changed my number plate bulb for me. I paid and got back in the car when a couple stopped to ask where a church was. They were elderly and it was hot (do you remember - summer was a Saturday this year ;)) so I told them to hop in and drove them.

    Even Stevens for me :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I once picked up 3 A-Level students who were taking part in some kind of challenge. I saw them as I left the Trafford centre heading back to Liverpool. They had a sign saying Liverpool so I pulled over. They explained their challenge was to go to places of interest around the UK, take pictures and then get back to somewhere darn sarf.

I took them to the docks to get Beatles memorabilia and a photo, to Penny Lane, to the cathedrals and then back to the start of the M62 so they could hitch to their next target, Blackpool.

I've had several wallets returned when I've left them. I got a lift back from a concert in Leeds to Halifax when I was there with DD2 and we missed the last train.

I recently found a smartphone in the park, hung onto it whilst I walked the dogs and then found the owners looking lost and worried - they were ever so grateful (hooded youths with good manners).

Each day when walking the dogs I pick up the litter in the park. DS1 often asks why?! - I am trying to educate him.

Oh, and thanks to MSE, and Tosco being so bad at glitches, I've probably given away of 10K worth of groceries over the last two years to homeless shelters, dog kennels, friends, families who are struggling and the local dads group I run.

Remember - Every little helps ;)

Only a small thing but in Boots tonight someone had a left spare 25% off shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste coupons in the Advantage Card machine. A bit annoying as I had already used the same coupons with 10% off :(. I used them for an extra stock up/Xmas stocking shop and will reciprocate :D.

    Marmitegirl - how lovely :T.

On this point, whenever I have left over Clubcard coupons I don't intend to use, when walking around Tosco I stick them in front of the product they are for for other people. :D

I think this is a brilliant side effect of random acts - if you've had someone do a kind thing for you, you're much more likely to help someone else.
  • I use public transport and I've had lots of goodwill gestures over the last few months. I have to cross a very busy roundabout with a pushchair and one day when it was just starting to snow, I was stood on the central reservation waiting to cross when the bus went sailing past me. The driver must have seen the look on my face because he pulled into the bus stop even though no one was waiting and no one got off. I crossed the roundabout and ran up the road to get on the bus. I couldn't thank him enough because I'd have been waiting at least another 15 mins in the cold with my little one. He said it was a win win situation, I got the bus and he got to have a drink of his nice hot coffee to warm him up. I wrote to the bus company to say how wonderful he was.

I often get help with bags and my pushchair and people always let me get on first even if they've been waiting longer. I always try to help others in return where I can. It's good to have some faith in the human race!

I was certain that you can only use “your”coupons with “your” clubcard, am I wrong?

Firstly I have to say, I'm having a bit of a bad week, so reading all these stories are heartwarming and making me a bit teary, so thank you all for posting and helping me feel better!

Reading this springs to mind my walk home from work the other day. I was doing my usual route which is about 20 mins from the station to my front door and I saw a tiny little dog walking towards me, I didn't think anything of it until I noticed that there was nobody else on the road. I started to think the dog had run off a lead and knocked on a few houses to see if the dog was known to anyone.

After about 20 mins I didn't know what to do as the dog collar didn't have any details on it, so I asked one of the doors I knocked on to keep the dog fenced in while I went further down the road to see if I could find the owner.

I got to the top of the road I was on and saw a very distress looking man at a busy road junction concemplating what road to try next. I then noticed he had a dog lead and no dog. I knew I'd found my man!

He was turning on his heel to go up another road (the wrong one) so I had to shout serveral time *EXCUSE MEEE!!! HAVE YOU LOST YOUR DOG?* I was getting a lot of funny looks. Eventually I caught up with him and I said, have you lost your dog? He managed to say "yes" in between tears and I just smiled and pointed, "it's ok, he's at number 18 down that road".

I've never seen someone look so relieved, he thanked me about 100 times and went running off on his way.

It still makes me feel good thinking about it now.
