It's good to see this thread is still going, I was thinking of it when my sister was telling me about losing her phone. She got off the bus and then realised with horror that her phone was still on the bus which had now departed so she spent some time trying to find the same bus coming back on a loop but eventually gave up after having no success. She went to a payphone and phoned her boyfriend to explain what had happened and where she was but he surprised her by replying that he had her phone.

Someone leaving on the next stop the bus went to had noticed my sister had left her phone so he took it with him, phoned the flat and reached the boyfriend then gone straight round and dropped the phone off. He didn't give his name or any details as he was just happy he could help out and get the phone back to my sister. Given we hear so much about fraud and theft on the headlines it's good to have a reminder that there are good people out there who don't normally get a mention.

I once stopped to help a woman change a puncture. She was lovely, and tried to give me wine, which I declined. I didn't give her my name, but mentioned I was on my way to an agricultural college.

A few days later, I received a card addressed to my full name; she'd gone to the trouble of finding out who I was so she could thank me and invite me for coffee if I was near her home.

    Isn't that nice?

Just saw this and I smiled as I remembered the other day I was in Primark and I noticed a lady trying to get a vest top down off a high rail that she couldn't reach- she was jumping to try and grab it so I stopped and used my crutch to hook it and get it down for her :D she was really grateful and it did make me feel good :)
Also when I went to my friend's funeral, I got chatting to her neighbour outside. I was in quite a state and through my tears I explained that I had come from Leicester (my friend lived a good distance away) and she very kindly offered to drive me to the pub where the wake was being held as I was too upset and feeling too unwell to go to the burial. She drove me to the pub and even offered to come back later and pick me up and drive me back to the station but I politely declined as I thought I couldn't possibly ask her to do that and I would ring a taxi instead.

I came down the stairs to the communal hall of our apartments this morning to find a handbag on the hall table. I saw that the lift was going to floor 1, so ran up and caught the lady as she was opening her front door. She hadn't realised that she had left it there!

People leave things all the time. This week there has been 1) a diary. 2) baby nappies. 3) SMA baby milk. Each time they have been collected without issue, but I couldn't leave a handbag there!
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

NIce to read some good news stories

I'm always pleasantly surprised by the number of people who will let you out into a traffic queue (there are alot round here).
Little things like that really make your day. I always try to payback by letting someone else out/cross the road etc

Once at a car park I didn't have any change and was in a rush and a lovely man paid the charge for me, I'll never forget it and always try to help out someone with change if they stuck, like when the machine won't take your last 5p!

    Me again

I was also reminded of when I was moving down South to work, and I had a job but struggling for accommodation. I went it a shop to get passport photos for ID and the man in the shop was not only lovely and sympathetic but offered me accommodation if I was still unable to find anything by the next week. Convinced me i was doing the right thing by moving to that area. I didn't need to take up his offer, but again its kindness I'll never forget.

Dont do this for old people :-

Hold the Door Open for Someone

Holding the door open for someone is something they just do in old movies, right? Guess again. Holding the door open is a polite and thoughtful act you can easily do for your family, friends and even strangers, every day. Whether you’re at school, the grocery story, at work, or at home, those around you will certainly appreciate your good manners. ( unless your over 60 and you just expect it done for you, wheres your manners oap's )

Because its usually us 'over 60's who are doing the door holding and teaching the rest of the ignoramuses that it is normal to say 'thank you' and I'd remind you that you are not an OAP, just because you are over 60 these days.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Don't let other people's bad manners affect your own standards. Be polite, be courteous, be gracious, be thoughtful, smile. You never know what effect it has on the other person, even if they don't appear to respond. You never know how bad a day they are having.

And if you are the recipient of a random act of kindness, pass it on!:A

I was once camping in a remote spot, and had to use the telephone box in the village to make a call. I hadn't even realised I had left my purse in the phone box until the next morning some-one 'knocked' at my tent to return the purse to me. I was very touched.

I'm part of a group who send out random things via royal mail as everything seems so lost in technology people seem to forget the simple pleasures of a letter and all we used to get was advertising or bills! It's so lovely to send something knowing it's unexpected and will brighten someone's day. A friend of a friend is currently out of work and I overhead him telling my friend how gutted he was he didn't have even £1 to treat his daughter to some sweets when he saw her (every weekend) so I slipped some money in an envelope and posted it through his door anonymously, it was enough for petrol for job interviews and to treat his daughter and I wrote that he must pass on the random act of kindness when he could. Apparently it cheered him up as he went to my friend rambling about restoration of faith in the human race and the kindness of strangers!
