Totally agree i see this every day, the other motorist is at a stop sign!
Though the OP would be at fault its the car in front thats interupting the flow of taffic and one of the reasons there are trafic jams which concertina back.
I dare say if car in front had have done that on his/her test they would have failed. Along the same lines some years back a police man in a jam sarnie told me regardless of what your speed is, the other person is at fault if it causes you to alter your speed or swerve. Too many motorists taking liberty on this nowadays.
Also OP should have been alert and observant seen it coming, thats what makes a good driver, as above put it down to experience.0 -

But the car in front of that was the one stopping the other car in front of the OP from moving forward. Not so much that car "had stopped in the middle of the roundabout to let someone join further round," but maybe it had joined the roundabout without giving way, causing the other driver to stop.
I think the OP needs to review her lessons about maintaining safe stopping distances behind other cars and anticipating changing traffic conditions. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

The car in front of me was stopped in the middle of the roundabout, she had stopped to let another car in further round the roundabout.
I moved in as it was clear and as i was driving in i checked the right lanes and when i looked back she had stopped. The other driver had let the car in0 -

Advanced observations are what its all about and what you are lacking.0 -

That is something you should have anticipated, or at the least not allow it to make you to be still shaking when you wrote your OP.
You need to learn that something like this happens nearly every day and if it leaves you a quivering wreck, you need to chose whether driving is for you or not; nervous drivers are dangerous drivers. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
