I didn't realise that in my post I had to summarise every other posters points and advice before offering a suggestion! I thought it had already been clarified to everyone's satisfaction that legally the OP is allowed to change her mind within 7 days.

Prat was the least offensive word I could come up with! You appear to be very aggressive some could call it unfounded aggression!

No, but you could have read up on the points of law concerning cancelling a cheque.

I think you know I'm right.

Rubbish. Your advice is potentially very, very dangerous and smacks of someone that really doesn't know what they are talking about.

Cancelling a cheque is very rarely an answer as writing a cheque indicates that that a debt is owed. Again, research "action on a cheque".

Cancelling a contract off trade premises is a RIGHT. Which is FREE to exercise.

I think we've clarifieid enough now that the OP did not pay by cheque................ Good use of capitals though, i'm very impressed

I don't think you're right at all. In fact I know you're wrong! However as already clarified the OP did not pay by cheque so arguing with you about your lack of knowledge in this area is not going to help the OP at all. Therefore I don't want to hi-jack her thread with this debate!

  • You may even find that the company reduce their price to £395 too when you ring to cancel, just to check your custom.

Whatever happens, I hope you get it sorted and they don't mess you around too much.

As mentioned, if you bought the goods whilst in your own home you have 7 days to cancel which you must do by writing to the company.

The poitn of this law is to give you time to consider your purchase because you may have been pressured into making a decision there and then by a rep - which is kind of what happened here.

When giving you sales paperwork you should have recieved a form which explains your rights and how to cancel. failing to provide this when required is a criminal offence in itself. I would give the company a ring and ask them where tyhe cancellation form is and see if they know what one is. If not tell them about the relevant regulations.

Report them to trading Standards via Consumer Direct.

At the risk of refuelling all this -- he is actually right. If op cancelled the cheque and the company wanted to be difficult then it could get very messy indeed.

Hopefully op will cancel, they won't argue it and all will be hunky dory :d

    Hi all,

I've asked the Forum Team to review this thread, and in the meantime - a reminder:-

That’s the forum motto. Remember the prime aim is to help provide info and resources. If you don’t like someone, their situation, their question or feel they’re intruding on ‘your board’ then please bite the bullet and think of the bigger issue... a Guardian article recently “doffed its cap” to this forum as being the one place where consumers can collect together and fight back, our job is to help keep it that way.
