lemonmelon wrote: »I had (have) ovarian cancer. The cancerous bit is just horrifically bad luck but it was just a cyst on my ovary that I ignored all the symptoms of (irregular bleeding, abdominal pain and bloating etc etc) until it was as big as a watermelon and my belly measured 26 weeks pregnant- considering that I was only 9 stone at that point its an awful lot of ignoring. I just passed it off as side effects of coming off the pill and weight gain.
I was really unlucky that it was cancerous as 99.9% of cysts in a lady my age are totally fine but because I left it for so long they couldn't save my ovary or tube on one side and they were worried they'd have to take both.
Its a scary story but I'm doing fine - I had really good care from the NHS and even though my gynae wasn't sure how sucessful we'd be I've had two miscarriages since so proved at least that I can get pregnant with half an ovary.
I would just encourage anyone with unusual bleeding or pain to get checked because at worst you take two minutes of someone's time and you could save your fertility or at least feel a lot less worried.
I didn't mean to scare anyone - I was just really unlucky. you can pm me if you have any questions about it but I didn't want to keep quiet - too many people don't talk about scary things and it only makes them more scary.
Just to re-iterate this I had a non-cancerous cyst on my right ovary, it grew to 13 cms in diameter and then began to rupture and make me very ill. I was 17 at the time and lost both my right ovary and right tube and was devestated as thought I would never get to be a mum. I went on to fall pregnant and miscarried. Doctors said they didn't think I would get pregnant again. However fast-forward to now and I'm now 25 weeks pregnant so it can still happen with only one ovary.
Like LemonMelon says it is much better to get checked out, even if it turns out to be nothing at least you know. When I went to the doctors with the pain and bleeding I thought I would get laughed at for being silly, and as much as a shock as having to go through it all I'm very glad that I did as it could have been much worse. xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
xx Mama to a gorgeous Cranio Baby xx

I personally would go codemonkey, better to be safe.
Think I'm turning into a crazy cat lady, expect with other pets not cats, I hate cats. I welcomed my new pet into my home yesterday, she's so cute, a little baby ferret called Tikka. She's laid out on my knee at the moment, but is having a nightmare I think, as is squeaking away in her sleep.
Some people may remember at easter that we phoned our local adoption centre at the council. They were meant to organise a home visit within 5-6 weeks. Well we never heard anything back from them. OH phoned them earlier and apparently they have lost our details, and miraculously found them again and said that we reckoned we didn't want contacting about adoption even though it says that we gave all of our details. Why would we go through a phone interview and want a home visit which was booked in, but not want them to contact us. So have to start all over again, they are sending us the booklets again (they couldn't understand that we have already done all of this). Grrrrrr.Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.0 -

Code monkey : just popping on to reassure you that yes, I do sometimes get bleeding again after a couple of days without.
I don't know how reassuring it actually is, given that it's me and my crazy pcos cycles though
but just wanted to reassure you that (for me at least) it's never been anything sinister.
 hi ladies! & Congratulations maire!"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
I've also had bleeding and pains after AF I've been checked out and they can't find anything, but I do have pcos so think they've put it down to that. Big hugs and hope everything is ok - if your worried make an appointment with gp, as its not wasting their time if it puts your mind to rest.
As for me I need someone to kindly slap me, as I keep SS and I know I shouldn't be!
Baby dust to everyone xx0 -
Morning ladies
Its my wee test today and every week I do a pregnancy test just as a rough indicator as where my hormone levels are at. And today its a TLP instead of a BFP that it has been for the last 5 weeks!! Its >almost< a BFN!!! Getting excited for good results next week now - hope I aren't too disappointed.
I only have this result and 2 more to get to normal levels, so really would like a big drop this week :j If it takes longer than that, then waiting times to TTC again are increased - booo!! Kind of got my heart set on trying again around my birthday (beginning of November) as thats when we started trying last year, so really would like to get the normal result within 8 weeks for that to happen. They obviously can't stop you from trying earlier if it does take say 10 weeks for the result to come back to normal - its only their recommendations. But DH is a stickler for the rules, and also if it did happen again it really would be devestating if we hadn't followed their advice to prevent it from happening again...
They don't know exactly why it does happen, just that once a person has had one, the chances of a second are increased from about 1 in 3000 for a first molar, to 1 in 100 for a second. If you have 2, then the chances then go to 1 in 6 for a 3rd :( Obviously thats not gonna happen to me tho. My next baby is defo gonna be my forever baby :A I guess it will be a lot more scary next time round trying and waiting for the scan etc. I should get an extra scan earlier next time as I am now monitored for life with any future pregnancies so that they can learn more about the condition. But still - I think I will be needing lots of PMA when I get to that stage...
Hi Lilymay  Nice to see you. Hope your blood tests go well
Codemonkey - I would just go and make an appt to see the docs. Its only a few mins out of your time. Doctors shouldn't make you feel like you are wasting their time - thats not fair. After Jade Goody etc, they have been trying to make sure more people go for their smears and do get any irregular bleeding checked out as it is one of those things that we kind of try and put off cos its not nice whipping yr bits out for the doctors to examine. If the docs do make you feel bad - then you should lecture them about that, lol!!! Is there not a nurse or a lady doctor there? It is probably completely nothing - but tis always better to be safe than sorry :A
Lemonmelon & Ickle - (((hugs))) for your stories ladies. Thank you for sharing. Hopefully lemenmelon will be in ickle's position very soon and we will all get our forever babies soon :A
Nikolacarter - Sounds like a urine infection to me. You should go to the docs to get it checked out as you will prob need antibiotics. Don't put it off like my friend did as she ended up with a kidney infection and over a week off work in quite a lot of pain. Urine infections are very common, especially in women, and very treatable if you go early enough. I've had a million in my time as my tubes are all wonky between my bladder & kidney.
Vesper - Any pics of Tikka?? I have a cat and really *really* want a kitten - but DH keeps saying no, boooooo!!! That must be so annoying about the council  Good job your OH phoned them to find out what was going on. Hopefully it will be rushed through a bit quicker now for you.
TTC40 - how are you feeling today? Glad they managed to flush water thru - that was obv a good sign. Am sure you will be super fertile now and catch they eggy very soon :j
Happy Friday everyoneMarried my lobster in July 2011
TTC # 2 since Oct 2011 - good things come to those who wait
 2013 is going to be our lucky year :dance:0 -

I would definitely second getting urine infections treated quickly. I left one last year and got a kidney infection too and it was probably the most painful thing I've ever had. I felt absolutely rotten. I get a lot of UTIs as there's scarring all round my bladder from the endo but I know now not to leave it when I start getting symptoms.0 -
Morning all
LilyMay - nice to see you, I'm getting CD21 tests done this month tooHope your results show you are ovulating earlier than you thought!
Abis - fingers crossed the tlp means that the levels are going down. Will be lovely if you could start ttc again on your birthday.
I second suggestions about getting things checked out by doc, even if it turns out to be nothing. I am terrible for not going to the doctor about things and thinking they'll just 'go away', but it is so important to look after ourselves and keep our bodies in tip top condition for when we are growing our babies
Feeling a bit down today, BD last night but DH got 'performance anxiety' and couldn't complete, so I'm worried we've missed our opportunity this month. Haven't had a temp rise yet, but CM has dried up. Anyway, we'll see. I feel like we go through this every single cycle - me knowing OV is approaching, not saying anything to DH but him just 'knowing' and not being able to perform or not being bothered. And then I get all ratty and upset so BD is off the cards anyway!
Don't know what to do about this stupid situation! Am wondering about NTNP - obviously I'll still be able to check CM (don't think I'll ever give up that habit :rotfl:) but could stop temping and OPKs and all the rest of it. But the issue is we probably won't have enough sex!
Aargh! Sorry for yet another rant, I really do feel like a stuck record on this subject now!
Oh well, it's Friday :j We are decorating our bedroom this weekend which should be fun (maybe I should go for a kind of sexy boudoir style to encourage BD :rotfl:).0 -
CD1 for me, out for dinner tonight so a couple of drinks on the menu i think.
Hugs to those that need them and please go to the doc with odd bleeding and cramps and constant weeing!
Hope you all have a great weekend xxLeopardlady
