Hello there all,
As you may guess, I am a regular in disguise.
Just wondered, do any of you other ladies suffer from hair loss? I have had hair loss for around 8 years now, and its getting really bad. Im in my mid 30's.
Just wondered if any other women here have it, to the point of bald patches appearing? or is it just me. I feel a freak. I am very depressed to say the least, and really try to not keep thinking about it etc, but it is hard when every time you look in the mirror you can see this problem
If anyone wants to pm about the subject thats fine, discretion is my middle name.

I sympathise - my mother had this a number of years ago and it really knocked her confidence - she lost her hair quite badly around the temples and it was very noticeable for a while. In her case it was stress related, and eventually grew back to a reasonable thickness. Have you seen the GP to see if there's an underlying treatable cause? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I lost hair last year over a number of months, not bald patches but definitely thinning and at the front of my hair I could see my scalp.
As my anaemia was identified and treated the rate of loss reduced, and ( I have just gone an had a quick look in a mirror) hair seems to be looking OK now. Have' nt thought about it for a while but at the beginning of the year it was a concern.
See your GP and ask them about it. in my case my colleagues ( in a kind way) told me of their concerns for me.. So what could have been embarrassing was OK to talk about.0 -
I have been to the GP, and been tested for everything, thyriod, iron deficiencies, everything. All came back fine. They referred me to the hospital (around 2 years ago now) and I had the most horrendous day of my life there, as this doctor came in, with three young female trainees - all peering at my bald patches/receeding hairline - I just wanted to ground to open up. He didn't offer help at all, just said that I have something called 'Androgenic Alopecia' (female pattern baldness). That was all he said, then he left the room.
Since then I have tried to self medicate to no avail, and recently been to a trichologist for advise, who basically told me to try medications that I already had (and failed) or I could have some kind of lazer thingy treatment - which has really bad reviews on the internet.
At the minute, I cannot go out without having some kind of cover-up on my head - weather it be cosmetic, or a head scarf. It really is bewildering.
My husband knows I am upset about this, but I havent let him see my hair 'au natural' as in wet out the shower, for years so doesnt realise how bad it is. He doent understand that to a woman her hair is her crowning glory. He does try though, can't fault him for that at all. Incidentally, my husband has far nicer hair than me, long and curly - (think slash from guns and roses type hair) - isnt that just typical!0 -
My mum has this.
It knocks her confidence too
It could be thyroid related (check with your Dr) or other hormone related issues. A blood test should help.
xxI have realised I will never play the Dane!
Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!!0 -
Hi Skypie,
I've had all the thyroid tests, and hormone tests. Was kind of hoping that it was something like that, so at least they could treat it.
The way it has been explained to me is that Androgenic Alopecia is genetic - and there is only one proven thing that works for this on 'some' people. Unfortunately this drug doesn't work for me0 -
Hi Litle Ole Me. I'm not female but I have been losing my hair and I suffered from loss of confidence etc. I've been using Nanogen for about 4 months an I think it's awesome. They have a product for women as well although I don't know what it's like obviously. http://www.nanogen.co.uk/female-hair-loss.html
The men's product has changed my life i would say. Hope everything works out.“Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.” – Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory0 -
ahh, hugs OP.
I had a friend who had this androgenic condition and can empathise a little. my friend never did find a miracle cure or anything that worked for her either, but she did manage to keep her spirits up, and used to have some awesome fun with wigs (when it got bad enough to merit wearing one), she had different wigs for every occasion, long ones, curly ones, pink ones. im sorry to hear you are struggling at the momentThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

Changed your life? Well I do like the sound of that!
Just having a look at this site, very interesting. There seems to be four stages of products..are you using them all?
Many thanks for your advise there0 -

I have the aqua match and the nano fibres, not really using the others. the site's a bit clunky but I've always recieved what I ordered in good time.“Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.” – Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory0 -
Thanks for that Billy. I use a similar thing to aqua match at the minute as coverage. Would you be tempted to try any of the tablets or other potions on there, that claim they can slow it all down/reverse it?
I'd love to try and 'treat' myself (slow it down) as well as cover it all up, if you see what i mean
Its easy to be sceptical isnt it, these things are all very expensive, and I haven't really heard any sucess stories about other products. Some products, once you start on them, you are on them for life, or you risk your new regrowth falling back out again..thats if they work at all in the first place. Oh I dont know, its all so confusing0
