Was just wondering, is everyone going to pay the contributory/voluntary fees? I heard that only the capital fee is required! Any body know if this is true? If so how do you go about it? Would it effect a child's status within the classroom?0

I can answer a 'no' to that! I doubt teachers have a clue who has paid what.Stercus accidit0 -

My friend tried to get out of paying the 'voluntary' fee but they really put the pressure on saying that lots of things wouldn't happen without everyone paying and she ended up paying because she felt guilty!! If you're genuinely unable to pay they can't force you to.0 -

Did all we could.
Onwards and upwards.
Uniform bought.
Done deal.
Dear Travellinglight, so sorry to hear your appeal was unsuccessful after such a long wait. If it's any comfort, my friend's four children all loved Wellington and did extremely well there, all achieving mostly As at A level and getting into their first choice uni courses. I hope he will be happy and successful in his new school.0 -
Just wanted to wish everyone's children good luck in their new schools.
My wee brother starts tomorrow, he hasn't really said how he feels about it but I think he is a tiny bit nervous but also looking forward to the new venture in his life0 -

I agree, Wellington is a good school, my son who was in year 11 (4th form) last year has just got an A* in his GCSE Maths (a year early) and indeed his whole class got A* and A's (all doing the exam a year early)- he loves the school and is expecting to do really well in his remaining GCSE's next June. I have nothing but praise for Wellington and it's teachers.0 -
Just wondering does anyone know, from AQE themselves or from their schools, whether or not in the real AQE tests, the children get awarded half marks for the questions with (a) and (b) parts where they get say part (a) right but not part (b)? When my DD's school are marking tests, even if they get part (a) right but part (b) wrong, they give them zero marks for the whole question, just wondering is this correct as I see it as unfair when they have part of it right ? I'm talking about the questions where there are separate questions (a) and (b) and/or (c) within one question but they each require working out separately and a separate answer. When doing tests at home, I've always given her a half mark if she got half of it right but maybe I'm wrong. Any views on this?0

No they def don't give half marks, I had the same query last year but my daughters teacher told me they do not give half marks for a and b questions! Check out windmill press their tests are of very similar standard to the real aqe tests!0

Ds has been in school a month now and at last I think he has settled. He just needs to get better at organizing himself now but I'm sure that will come with time. The homework's are horrendous it is unbelievable with they expect an 11 year old to know. Hope all your kids have settled quickly and are enjoying their new adventure.0
