    hello everyone

    Getting close now

A wee quick question again lol ;) On the AQE website there are some past papers for 2009 and 2010. My dd has already done these but there is very little english on them not sure why, whether it is copyright or because they may be used again. I know the 1st test is on saturday but i would have loved to have given her an actual full test paper to see how she did with it. Does anyone know if the full tests are available anywhere or do we have to go with the shortened verson.

    Thank you

    Denise

    Hi Denise

I found the same problem with the AQE website last year ie: it contained the 3 papers from Nov 2009 excluding the actual english passages (ie: comprehensions, poems etc). I too, would have liked to have had access to the complete papers. I did then buy some papers from a website called learning together and these were quite good, there was also a good set of papers from windmill press.

May I just wish everybody all the very best - it won't be long now until it is all over and you can relax and enjoy the festive season and forget about all of this until January when it will, inevitably, be on your minds, waiting on the results. I can hardly believe it is a whole year since my daughter did the AQE - the time since then appears to have flown in. Hope the next several weeks fly in for all of you. Thinking of you all over the next 4 Saturdays. Very best of luck.

Here we go!! Good luck to all the P7 pupils doing the transfer tests over the next 4 weeks. And it really has got to be worse for us parents!! Now to get DS to bed early...
  • Well? How did today go? My DS came out after the test with a big smile on his face. The general consensus among his classmates was that today's test was good, whatever that means.

Regardless of how everyone dealt with today, at least they know what to expect for the next two rounds, and that can only mean a higher level of confidence when they return on 26th.
  • Everyone who was in my sons test , including him, out saying it was easy they where all from the same school. I am little scared by this
  • My DD came out smiling too saying it was easy, now she has changed it to it wasnt easy but it wasnt hard !!!!
Most of the kids were smiling which was good to see. My DD said there were a couple of english ones which she isnt sure whether they were right but the maths to be honest from what she told me seemed easy enough, I suppose it might to be settle them in.

On to the next one then :/

My dd also came out smiling ... This can only mean one thing that the top 25 percent of a's will require a higher score! I think it is better to not be too easy my daughter works better under pressure and generally less makes less careless mistakes wen the question challenges her to think a bit more! I'm very scared! All the boys and girls came out smiling from that test yesterday I didn't see one concerned face! :/

My niece done the AQE last year and she says the same thing the first one was ridiculously easy, the second a little harder and the third was more tricky. So i suppose we just have to tell them not to get cocky or complacent because it will get harder.

  • My DS came out with a smile as well and said the maths questions were all simple maths rather than think and solve, he had loads of time to spare, which is a bit frightening:eek:. This seems to be the trend with the AQE tests as my DD did them 2 years ago and said first was easy and next 2 were much more complicated. Read in Belfast Tele that entry numbers are down by 100 this year for AQE and GL will not give out figures, i was surprised by this as entry numbers in our area are up, just typical:rotfl:
  • My son also set the transfer last week and he said it was easy  which normally sends alarm bells ringing cause if he says it was easy there is normally a low mark but I hope not. I was speaking to two other parents which are teachers and whose children are also sitting the test they both said that the 1st test is the easier so as not the freak the kids out. The next two are harder :(
  • Dear all

Last year my daughter and most of her friends found the first AQE test to be not too bad. They all said that the second test was definitely harder than the fist one and some of them were really worried by it but then they all found the third test not as bad as the second one! If you were to ask them today, they all still say that the 2nd test was the hardest. So, if any of your kids find the next test difficult or worrying just reassure them that it doesn't necessarily follow that the 3rd test will be as hard or harder but that it might just be easier :)

    Best of luck
