no not had a new card, but was told today i would have one within 10 days, considering the time of year and royal mail with their deliveries i dont really expect to see this card before the new year.

I was so annoyed by this that I changed to Nationwide, whose basic account still lets you use any ATM. My annoyance was partially because it became immediately harder to manage my finances despite living in central london (after being in various situations where i needed cash but could not find any of the 'allowed' ATMs, i ended up resorting to turning up at the bank on payday to withdraw everything and store it in a hiding place like a caveman), but it was also because they (NatWest) tried to sugar coat it as a good thing, mailing me to say they were pleased to tell me that my account had now been changed from a Step account to a Basic bank account. I believe that was intended as a massive middle finger up to what they perceive to be sub-prime leachers.

My bad credit history will have completely cleared in the next year and I will be taking a step onto the housing market, so I would like to take the opportunity to wish NatWest the best of luck with 1 less mortgage on their books. :T

Of course, when funding their bank is difficult and they don't actually have enough money to lend, I don't think they'll be too upset.

They are, like others, trying to reduce the size of the loan book, not increase it.

    They won't miss you.

Well you've done what they wanted you to do, upgrade or leave. They don't care which.

Not the story we're getting from above for 2012.

Mortgages are very much on the agenda.

I am really annoyed with Natwest, not only do remove access to cash points other than their own and Tesco ATMS, but then they go and publicise the fact we have a basic account by putting BASIC on our debit cards

RBS and Natwest are public owned, therefore we are paying for this anyway!

Oh, I'm sure they are from a sales perspective.

Lots of shiny new mortgages with big deposits and perfect credit history.

While twice as many get repaid on the other side of the balance sheet.

    ;)
