I am lucky to be alive tonight and I feel really jittery

We were on the way home at 8.50pm from shopping and our car hit something (a lorry differential - about the size of a head - solid metal) on the line on the motorway - 2 lanes. We were travelling about 50-60 mph, clear visibility. There was no-one else around at the time thank heavens.

There was this loud bang, we went everywhere and OH managed to get us onto the hard shoulder in a controlled way. It happened so fast.

Our two tyres on the driver side burst and the sill was scratched and lord knows what happened underneath.

We called the police to get it cleared and the RAC to take us home. I first thought it was a blowout but it was us hitting this object.

The police protected us from being hit on the hard shoulder and about an hour later a carrier took us home and the car to the pound, then going to a garage tomorrow.

We should hopefully get a car first from the RAC for three days and a courtesy car afterwards. Hopefully as it isn't a fault accident (the police said it was an accident even no other person involved) we could keep our NCB.

You cope at the time but the shock is making me jittery now:eek:

:( CCStar that's awful. It must have been very scary. Glad no one was hurt.

    Hello flis21 *waves*

Hopefully you will feel better once you've had your hair done. Any idea what style you want yet? Are you getting it colored as well?

How about treating yourself to a couple of new items of clothing just as a pick-me-up. It might make you feel better about yourself. You don't have to spend very much money.

Have you tried anything for your skin?

Are you planning on returning to the gym once your ankle has healed?

    (((HUGS))) xxx

I have been looking around on the internet for different hair styles, think I am going to go really short (at the moment it is a chin length bob). Something shorter and almost spiky ifswim). Not having it coloured, can't afford that (the cut alone in the posh salon I am going to is £30!).

I might have a look on ebay for some clothes maybe, that way I won't have to spend too much money.

I have tried lots of different things for my skin, but none of it really seems to work!

Yes I want to go back to the gym when ankle is healed, I am hoping to return in either May or June. I was actually really enjoying it, which is the really frustrating thing!!

Hi Flis,I can empathise with the weight problem.I have had one for most of my life,15 stone at my heaviest and i am only 5ft 2! I have lost a lot a couple of years ago and am now about 10 and a half, this is the longest i have gone without putting it back,i am the queen of yo yo dieting lol.The thing is although i feal better in one way and definately feal fitter now i worry about other things like my wrinkles lol.I am nearly 50 but look older proberly down to smoking since i was 16 and i used to sunbath most of the summer.I suppose worrying about our looks are down to low self esteem, wish there was somewhere you could buy it lol.If i could afford it i would have a face lift but then would proberly find something else to worry about lol.

Wow, your weight loss is brilliant, you must be really pleased, but I suppose you are right that if I lost weight I would just find something else I am not happy with and focus on that!! I am currently around 18 stone and 5 foot 5, so my BMI is horrendous. I can't believe I have let myself go like this. I was 12 stone when I got married 2.5 years ago!

How did you lose the weight? I am going to try and do it without a 'diet' but just by changing my eating habits, less takeaways, meals out and processed foods, more fruit and veg and make stuff from scratch. Have been looking on the old style boards for inspiration.

Flis.. I sympaathise with you about how you feel about your looks atm.. my weight has fluctuated between 5 stone and 22 stone.. not good. Right now I need to lose about 4 stone to be happy with myself but I'm seriously lacking the motivation to do it. Drinking lots of water is very good for your skin if you can do it.. I know it's hard to get it down sometimes but it does work, you will glow.. it helps cleanse your system and keep you hydrated. If I'm slack on the water for a few days someone will always say I look tired or run down, back on the water and I get compliments on my clear skin!! Also fruit.. try and eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies.. broccoli and clementines are my definite favourites at the mo, some nights i sit here typing away and munching on clementines instead of sweeties or crisps and easily get thru 3 or 4 in an evening.

The new hairdo will help too.. those small changes will be a big boost to your self esteem and mood and then you can start tackling the bigger things :)

Just take baby steps and you'll get there xxxxxxx

Thanks Ethel, will try the water thing, that is a good idea. I remember them talking about drinking lots of water when I went to weight watchers for a while. The thing is do you have to drink just plain water or can I put fruit squash in it (no added sugar of course!). I would find it hard to drink that much plain water!

    Just some Tiffy snippets...

    cc - hun - hug.gif - thank God you're both ok! :T
You might both experience a bit of shakiness today hun. It really gives you a reality check doesn't it angel? Take it easy for the next couple of days hun.;)

    gilly - good for you angel - congratulations hun!:T :A I hope you'll keep us posted badgie.hug.gif

    flis - Welcome home!;)

rose07 - sorry you're feeling poorly hun but stopping your meds like that is going to make things a lot worse.
Angel, no-one should stop taking their meds unsupervised or drink while on them either.
Sometimes we feel like exploding when something stops us from doing something important.
So hun, just take a few deep breaths, make yourself slow down and say to yourself, 'Right, how important is this problem? Is getting upset like this going to help anything apart from making me feel ill? Ok, I'll talk to dr tomorrow/whenever I can get an appointment. I've been taking these tablets for a while now so a few more days won't hurt until my appointment. I know I can call my care team in an emergency.'
It takes practice hun, but it'll take the pressure off you if you try it often enough.hug.gif

    Blimey CC...

Glad you're both ok... I had a similar thing years ago on the M11.. took me months to have the guts to drive again but I lost a lot of confidence and in fact I don't drive at all now. It really does shake you up and make you think all sorts of things.. and the aches and pains from the jolt will set in today.. have a long soak in a hot bath and if needs be see your gp or an osteopath :)

Yeah I thnk it's ok to dilute it.. I don't like those squashes so i dont have them.. but another thing is herbal tea - that's a good way to get your water intake up :)
