    Hi,

    Could someone please advise me.

By car tax expired on 31/12/09. I have renewed renewed it online on Wednesday 30/12/09 but haven't got my new tax delivered to me yet. The DVLA website advises that it can take up to 5 days for delivery.

Can someone please advise me whether I can still drive my car with an out-of-date tax disc on my windscreen, whilst Iam waiting to receive my new tax disc.

    Thanks
Yes for 5 working days i.e. until and including 08/01/12

No you should not receive any tickets, if you do you should challenge them.

Your renewal notice should have a leaflet which says:

"Since 1st September 2008 you can legally drive or keep your vehicle on the road for up to 5 days from the end of the month without displaying a valid tax disc provided you have made yopur application (by phone or online) before your current vehicle tax/SORN expires"

So back to the point, the disc clearly states the date of expiry, and complaint is over a £80 fine, perhaps they should be lucky it was not the insurance that had expired and rather than a small fine they had had a accident, resulting in fine points and possibly huge bills. bet they dont forget OH birthday or anniversary without having to have a letter sent.

I never go anywhere without my mobile and have all key dates in diary tax, mot, insurance. No excuses these days pay the fine and think yourself lucky.

In my opinion there should be no grace for not paying with the only exception for non display being that the disc is in the post, no payment by 1st of month send out the fine, and then additional fine for every day... heartless perhaps but until tax and insurance included in fuel prices dont pay dont play
Have you thought this through ?

The world does not work that way.

The system works very well & compliance is very high.

Do you want instant fines for EVERYTHING !

5 working days 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of Jan are not counted. I'm assuming Saturdays(2ndJan), from what I remember when I read this law, but I could be wrong on that.

Just recieved a failure to relicense vehicle notice.....

The vehicle had bee sorn and I have confirmation email of off road notice email copy but !

I didn't realise that sorn needed to be made every year - vehicle has not been on road for over a year and won't be for a long time yet

Is there anyeay thay will accept my reason for not having sorn reissued I can ill afford fine or excess duty?
Also this says I should do all of the following? pay fine £80 reduced to £40 if paid by certain date and pay duty owing £31.67.

Surely if I pay excess I shouldn't need to pay fine?

The fine is separate from outstanding tax.

Unlikely they'll accept casual excuse as DVLA is a faceless bureaucratic government organisation, they don't have any interest.

If you argue, you may lose opportunity to pay reduced rate of £40.
