Hi All ! My car was towed in Feb ( I didnt know I called the Police ) The woman in the Post Office said to leave it till end of the month to get a Tax Disc. I paid some £260 to get my car freed. Now 10 Months later, I get a summons to the magistrates office. Can I be fined twice ? Why 10 months later ?? Any help/advice please??

Having posted in this old thread, I trust you have read the whole thread and taken onboard all the relevant posts that are here.

You will have read that there are many different fines and charges applied to an untaxed vehicle, and you will be able to explain what you have paid so far, what you were refunded for (if any), what letters you have recieved or not because of the RK address not being recorded properly, perhaps? and what the court case is for, and whether it is a civil court or criminal court. Who is taking you to court, and whether you have contacted DVLA to ask if there was anything else you needed to do.

    Hi,

    Could someone please advise me.

By car tax expired on 31/12/09. I have renewed renewed it online on Wednesday 30/12/09 but haven't got my new tax delivered to me yet. The DVLA website advises that it can take up to 5 days for delivery.

Can someone please advise me whether I can still drive my car with an out-of-date tax disc on my windscreen, whilst Iam waiting to receive my new tax disc.

    Thanks

Question: I have got my reminder and bought the new tax on the 27th December. With Xmas and NY hasnt arrived yet. Theoretically I am taxed today but have no disc to prove it, despite having proof by email and bank statements. I know if I get stopped by police (v unlikely) I'll be OK but parking on the street, could I get a ticket for an expired tax disc?

However, she said also, that Law Enforsment Officers (Police), have the right to issue a penalty even if the car is 1hour late with the Tax Disk, thats providing it get spoted on the road.
Now that seems to me, serves only one perpose - to !!!! people off and make money from honest working citizens. Why concentrate on catching the real criminals while there is an easy prey.

this is interesting, tax due to run out on the 31/12. retax car on the 12th after getting home from MOT. Forgot to change tax disc over this morning and drive OH to work. On route heavy snow and road almost blocked, 2 police officers guiding traffic through. Not a word other than be careful.

So back to the point, the disc clearly states the date of expiry, and complaint is over a £80 fine, perhaps they should be lucky it was not the insurance that had expired and rather than a small fine they had had a accident, resulting in fine points and possibly huge bills. bet they dont forget OH birthday or anniversary without having to have a letter sent.

I never go anywhere without my mobile and have all key dates in diary tax, mot, insurance. No excuses these days pay the fine and think yourself lucky.

In my opinion there should be no grace for not paying with the only exception for non display being that the disc is in the post, no payment by 1st of month send out the fine, and then additional fine for every day... heartless perhaps but until tax and insurance included in fuel prices dont pay dont play
