My other half and I thought really hard, and we had 3 accidents in the past 10 years:
1. our car was parked and someone skided into it on an icy drive. not our fault, we did not pay anything. I dont' remember how long ago it was, maybe 4 years or so
2. some other car reversed into our car, not our fault, but our car was scrapped and we got some money back, but did not have to pay anything.
3. our car 'kissed' the car in front at a junction. Our fault, but I don't remember us paying anything (maybe £100, but not too sure).
We have 7 years of NCD.0 -
The question asked is have you "ever" had a policy cancelled.
So you are blighted for ever.
Damn!
Thank you, Quentin for your reply. Do you know if that 'ever' counts against a policy holder only? What if my OH becomes a policy holder? Would he need to declare the cancellation of the policy too?
Thank you.0 -

The NCD you have is irrelevant to declaring incidents (you were mislead by a numpty who told you that at SW).
Might be worth you paying the £10 to find out what relevant info is on the database0 -

Yes it is only the policy holder who is blighted.
But if your OH wants to add you as a named driver then the issue will come up again - ie this would need to be declared, and by "association" your OH would get "blighted"!0 -
I think you should definately follow up with a complaint to Shielas Wheels, as you appear to have followed what they told you. You could make a subject access request under Data Protection for copies of the phone calls to be provided. Most companies record calls and keep them archived for a few years. If the phone call with Sheilas Wheels is quite clear that you were told not to inform other Insurers of claims, perhaps you could send a personal letter to Allianz Chief Executive with a copy of the SW's phone call and ask them to reconsider the voidance status of the policy. They might not reinstate the policy, but atleast they might remove any markers applied about voidance and you would be in a better situation when arranging future cover. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

I would not only ask Allianz directly but tell Sheila's Wheels you expect them to do the same and confirm it was their advice you were following.... advice is an important word to be using as Sheila's Wheels (like most direct insurers) are non-advisory in license and should not have been giving any general insurance advice0

How about re-insuring with Sheila's wheels?0

Update: I called SW and they looked up details of my call. A lovely lady told me that they advised me that I did not need to disclose the value of the claim as it was outsourced, and had no effect on my NCD. She said that she could see how I could have interpreted that I would not need to disclose this claim. She then passed me on to complaints department, who opened a complaint and they should be in touch within 5 working days.
I then called Allianz and told them the above. I asked them if they could re-quote me, but they said they would not insure me.
I wrote to Allianz confirming what SW told me and said I would be in touch.
I think I will call SW tomorrow and ask them for a quote as I need to use the car.
The lady at SW also said that a cancelled policy is not as bad (though still not good) as a refused policy.
I shall post an update on any new developments.
Thank you for all the advice. I really appreciate it.
