Car insurance void - advice needed

Hi
I renewed my insurance a week ago and yesterday got a letter that it was voided. They gave me two reasons:
1. I used two different addresses (though they had my current address).
We recently moved and re-registered the car at the new address, so that was clarified.
2. I did not report a claim made in the past 5 years.
Well... when I rung my previous insurance company (Sheila’s Wheels) to get details for the last claim, as I needed to punch the details into money supermarket tool, they told me not to worry about it as my NCD was not affected as it was protected. So I did not put anything on the form about accidents.
The insurance which voided my policy (Allianz) refused to reinstate my policy regardless my explanation.
What do I do now? I guess I need to look for another quote, but does anyone know what repercussions this voided policy might have on the new quote?
Also, I recall we had 2 more claims years through no fault of our own and it was 'all taken care of’ by the insurance company, so we did not have to do anything.
Is there a register where one can look up details of past accidents?
I hope the above does not sound too confusing.
Thank you.

You need to declare all accidents, regardless of blame and for all drivers, normally for the last 5 years.
Surely you can remember basic details like rough date and basic circumstances (eg car hit me from behind)?0 -
.......Is there a register where one can look up details of past accidents?......
There is a thing called the CUE database which all insurance companies have access to and records details of claims & incidents.
I'd guess normal DPA/FOI rules apply and so you can get a copy of whatever info they hold on you0 -
The repercussions are you are basically now sub prime and so only a minority of insurers will offer you insurance and it will be at a heavily inflated rate.
You could take a complaint to Sheila's Wheels to say they advised you not to enter the data and this has been the consequence but it is unlikely they'll be interested and there is not that much they will be able to do even if they are.
Like claims are put on CUE so is the fact you've had insurance cancelled and so insurers will be able to spot it if you answer "no" to the have you ever had insurance cancelled question.0 -

Yes, now I know about the 5 years rule, thank you.
As for prevous accidents, yes, I remember the cirumstances, but the dates are a problem. I will try to ring my old insurance today and see if they can help.
Thank you, InsideInsurance and vaio for the advice.
How depressing0 -
even bumping into a sheep with no damage to own vehicle and no claimants involved can count!0

When you say NCD wasn't affected, was the claim you made your fault or the other drivers...did you get excess back?0

CUE has already been mentioned.
It costs £10 to get the info on that database.
You need to fill in and send off this form:

Thank you for your post again.
Do you know how long one has to wait until I become 'prime' again. I am thinking maybe selling the car and go without it for a few years...0 -
The insurance companies take the view that people involved in any accident are more likely to be involved in another :
May be some sense in that, I once worked with a guy who had a real bad habbit of setting off at roundabouts and then instantly slamming the anchors on if he saw a car enter the roundabout, just bad nerves I think.
He had 2 accidents whilst I was there in just 2 years that wrote off 2 vehicles.
unfortunatly I learned a few years ago he had another at the top of a motorway slip road that involved a lorry carrying concrete slabs and both he and the lorry driver died when the load broke loose.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
