Hiya
I was wondering if anyone would be able help/advise me?
I have a 1999 Renault Megane Scenic and only have the 1 key with the button that opens the doors. I am not sure if this is just for the remote central locking or immobiliser. I am a bit clueless when it comes to cars. There was only one key with it when I bought it. I am just kind of panicking as to what would happen if I was to lose the key etc so I am looking into getting a duplicate key so I could keep one in the house. Would I need to go to a Renault dealer or is there anywhere else I could get one.
Sorry if this seems a bit dim, just unsure.
Thanks0 -
And don't buy a second hand (from a car dealer) or new Ford without insisting on 3 keys as part of the contract, and make sure you have the keys before taking the car from the premises.
i can clone ford keys actually 95%of all new cars that have a texas immobiliser chip or texas crypto chip also nissan nats system direct from the key to another chip hows that no more than£45 for complete job no more than 10 mins chris s derbyshire 07943 56 7756 [timpsons who]:cool:0 -

Hi good morning
Type auto locksmiths into a search engine like yell dot com and the area you live in, it should bring up a few auto locksmiths that should be able to give you a quote, I wouldnt bother going to Renault, they like a lot of the Franchise dealers usually charge double or triple the price to cut and code a spare key

Fords: To programme a new key you need two existing keys. Most people don't realise this until they have lost one key - then it is too late ! Your friendly Ford dealer will fix you up with a new key for £75 +.
Go to Timpsons (or similar) and get a third key for your Ford - NOW
from 1 key up to 2009 i do this as part of my job free lance key cutting & car key programming i charge £45 job done chris s derbyshire please get your facts correct0 -
I need to replace a broken key for my Alfa 156. I have been given a cost, by the dealer, of £190. This is unbelievable..............
Their excuse is that the keys are computer chipped, no longer can you just go and get one cut.
I cannot afford this. Is there a cheaper alternative.
You comments will be appreciated.
BMW told me the same, that the key couldnt be cut as it was chipped.
A local locksmith did have the technology to cut chipped keys at a fraction of the cost.0 -
i just had the same problem with my toyota key, check out the thread i started, hopefully it can help

I'm after a spare transponder key for my Hyundai Accent; it was sold to me with only one. Thus far I've been quoted: £75 for Timpsons to come out, £50 + VAT for a local company to do it if I take it to them, 'about £45' by another local company who may or may not be able to do it when they see the key/car (but I suspect they will be able to seeing as how its one everyone else can do), £70 for a local company to come out, either £18 or £45 (he'll tell me which when he sees it) by a guy who goes does the local markets and £65 by the main dealer. These new fancy immobilisers seem more trouble than they're worth.0
